What are these bits for?

I've been tidying up my 200Tdi as part of a rebuild and I was wondering about a few things. I've labelled the photos with the bits I'm talking about.

1. Someone had used RTV to plug these small holes that look like the end of bolts coming through from inside the block (before they were pulled out by a wire brush). What are they, and should I be replacing the RTV?

2. There's some sort of brace between two of the head bolts, but not the other ones. What's that all about?

3. What is this weird sandwich of plates and cable ties around the fuel pipe?

4. What's this bracket for? It's loose and I don't think anything was attached to it (although I could be wrong!)

Where’s your turbo??

1 is oe.
2 is engine lift bracket been cut down.
3 is dunno, possibly for a temp sensor cos it was run on veg oil.
4 looks like a conversion engine mount maybe.
Was it fitted to a series?

Just out of shot in picture 2. It's a Defender 200Tdi, not a Discovery.

Nope, it's the original engine, and it's too flimsy for an engine mount.
I wondered if the fuel pipe gizmo was one of those old wives tales about magnets and fuel efficiency.

1, factory
2, spacer plate, maybe bolt holes in head are slightly to large, and plate means bolts have to be vertical whether they like it or not, or maybe a mod as listed a spart of gasket kit?
3, possibly magnet fuel saver
4, defender only bottom downpipe mounting bracket, right fiddly sods to fit as well, dont fit this at your peril as downpipe will slip off the turbo elbow

Of course! It's been so long since I took the exhaust off I'd forgotten how it attached. Thanks for clearing that up.

I vaguely remember some enthusiasm for those magnetic "fuel savers" when I first got a car back in the late 90s, but can I assume that the fraudsters have made their millions and everyone has since come to their senses? Or do they actually work in some inexplicable magical way?

I am sure in some lab somewjere they worked, but in real life they do not.
If they did work every car maker would have them fitted to improve mpg.
