What are these 8mm pipes for?

Hi all I'm removing my plastic petrol tank to make space for a LPG tank. So I'm putting a tank under the wing ready for the installer.
Now when I've taken the tank off I've found some 8mm plastic pipes that run to the front I've had a feel around in the tank and they seem to have something to do with the fumes.
What are the for?
Will the car run without them attached?

they go to the canister under the bonnet, the petrol fumes are what the engine uses to run on-on the "overun" it was something introduced in the early nineties for emmisions and economy.

Not sure wat the management will do without it but nothing had it before that date so it must be possible!

Part of the MOT I seem to remember, its purpose is to filter evaporating petrol fumes from the tank before they get to the outside world, nothing else.

It's more complex on USA/North America vehicles, but we still have the canister over here, the atmosphere end just pops up around the brake servo area. There is a pipe clip on the end for one of two different finishing pieces, which we don't have in the UK and Europe.

I have the charcoal canister on my 89 3.9 the only thing is it was fitted into the drivers side rear wing area. Doesnt appear in any of the manuals I have read. Always in the engine bay.

Have a look around the under side of rear wing drivers side. around filler pipe. You should see the pipes going up there if it isnt in engine bay. Which if memory serves, you don't have one in the front

Yeah I dont , it has been a bit stinky of petrol round there too actually , I had better have a look!
