as above really, got 2 discos at minute 1 daily (which wont pass another mot withought ALOT of welding) and 1 toy/winter hack which has just passed today..

so looking for something still 4x4 but abit "nicer" ie leather heated seats blah blah..
Been looking at the td4's as this seems to be the better engine from reading around, also toyed with a v6 but apparently they drink more than a v8 (and iv had one of them)

so in general what are they like, apart from doors falling off when it rains!!?!

Well, they are superb mate, of course.

look at the evidence and don't be clouded by the rank and file ;)
 
To be perfectly honest, my K series has done everything my 3.9 did but with fewer breakdowns, snow, mud, ice, off road.
As long as you've got summat like decent tyres on and are aware of the pionts to look for when buying and are happy to do the sorts of preventative maintainence you would with any landy, then you'll be fine.
 
I no i no...i feel dirty even toyi g woth the idea but needs must lol..

Maintenance isnt an issue..im kinda put off the 1.8 due to HG failure...I can do em I iust cant be ar*ed lol..

So how do I check the diff/ransfer or ird (if thats what it is)

6'2 in passenger. seat its tight for some reason but in a 51 regarding, the drivers seating position in fine.

If you go for one, go for a 1A vin/51 reg or newer, most of the problem s had Bernard sorted before it left Solihull.
 
You might as well increase your odds of avoiding problems and give the k-series a wide birth. Of course there are plenty on the road behaving nicely, but you might as well just stay clear IMO.

The drive train issues are well documented with some owners choosing to remove the prop and run it as 2wd for 11 months of the year taking all the stress off the VCU and IRD.....

My father in-law loves his L-series - a vehicle he bought to replace the k-series one that has something wrong in the drive train. He cut his losses and just took if off the road.
