Old news.

The Defender was crushed because it was illegally imported to the states, not because it was inherently unsafe, although I think there might have been some sort of issue over airbags.

There's no such thing as a 1975 Defender. The fault lies with the idiot or scumbag low-life who tried to get it into the states.
 
I appreciate that, but still that is a huge waste of resources. How does crushing a perfectly usable car make any sense?

Surely it would be better to export to a country that could put it to good use...

I'm just jealous because I want it :D

Lets see it was illegal, no different than UK customs destroying counterfeit shoes and boots, or millions of ciggys that make millions of dollars for criminals.

Plus it was a stolen vehicle, and a US Doctor under investigation for being party of a car theft ring as he has about 20 defenders he is trying to sell. US customs is working with UK customs and law enforcement to catch the bastids.

Rover Defender. Customs and Border Protection, working with NHTSA, has seized more than 20 at ports in the past 18 months. In March, Homeland Security and CBP carted off almost 20 Defenders from a chiropractor’s house in suburban North Carolina. What’s going on?
 
Maybe a dumb question, but I wonder if any of those Defenders were stolen from the UK?? Did the authorities check to see? Might give closure to one or two who've suffered a theft.

that is what it looks like as they all had altered vin's........ US customs is working with UK customs and law officals. 40 defenders in 18 months:scratching_chin: and One person with 20 of them, what would you think, Plus UK is car theft capital of the EU........

only goes to show that the USA cant build/make/sell such an Iconic vehicle as our Great British designed and built Defenders.
even the latest Jeep looks like a Rangie,
and why did all then top rated films have the choice of any 4x4 in the world,
but simply chose the best..:clap2:
