Right I,ve scanned this as my old computers hard drive has gone tits and I think I've lost all pre 2005 photos!:(

Right not the best , but that is a Snatch rover with the rear alxe ripped off.

The chains you see is because when the tit tried using a kinetic rope he ripped not only the jate rings but also ripped the towing eye. So therefore it required a belly lift.

You can see the bent trailing arms still though.....kinetic ropes are sh!te hence why we don't use them....use a winch or spend time digging out your vehicle before attempting to tow recover!

That's ace :D

Don't know the military reg of the snatch do you? The guys on EMLRA who 'collect' snatches might be interested!

its not ! it puts far to much shock through the equipment, and yes it may be a kinetic rope but nobody that carries out recovery uses them!

Plenty of people use kinetic rope, don't you use them in the army? Thought they were made for fast recovery of armoured vehicles, they are a good bit of kit if used correctly and looked after but used wrong and they are deadly or the recovery points used aren't up to the job

I Cary various kit one of which is a kinetic rope

I'm just glad I didn't pull it from the axle! Think the old landy would **** itself and fall to a thousand pieces!

I've seen axles pulled off aswell,

cant remember recovered that many of the bloody things, and in Aschurch there is a hanger full of different versions of snatchs just sat rotting.

once upon a time used them on the CVRT fleet. But they have since been removed there crap. First of all they take massive shock loads (might be good on a 2ton rover with an estimate pull of 4 ton. But once your up to to 30 ton warriors or 62 ton challengers the risk is to high. We still use tow ropes for quick self recovery, failing that we have winches (big winches I love it) I can set up and winch out anything very quickly (things pinging of your wagons motivates you) so do most lads that do this trade. No civilian operators use them either

Yes I imagine recovering tanks is somewhat different to recovering land rovers at pay and play, but just because someone is civilian and recovering vehicles for recreation doesn't mean that they don't develop skills/experience/techniques that work well and work safely and manageably.

I was never a believer of kinetic ropes until I got lent one by a man who makes them by weaving used/discarded climbing rope, he said take it and try it and you'll love it.

Indeed I bought it off him that day.

Very good road towing rope too, the stretch makes it forgiving.

each to their own I suppose, I just don't trust them, and as mentioned the points they are attached to need to be in good working order (hard for some landrover chassis I know:D)..but if it works use it. Just make sure the other party knows what they are doing!

Yeah there like marmite either you love them or hate them, and just cause a chassis looks good doesn't mean it is, most accidents happen when they are used in anger, just a gentle pull the same a strap will work but with less of a Sudden jolt.

As noisy says forgiving if needing to tow a stranded vehicle to say a car park

Don't think I weigh that much :D

where the video of the yorkshire ****s snatching the disco out of a bog on a steel winch line?

Noe that was stupid.

Don't know.

There was the video of Tommy, of Discovery Destruction fame trying to get the black 90 out of a big on a strop that broke quite spectacularly, but I'd like to see a winch line snatch video!

Hardly a snatch .. and have you seen the actual equipment used in the video?

You obviously also don't know who is actually in the video .. and how often they go out together so know what each other's doing, mostly .. ;)

Lolz that's pretty entertaining.

Mainly because tree hugger is me :D

Was going to say before (but chose not to add fuel to fire) that I for one have definitely received and given tow on winch line.

It's a no by the book but again if your equipment/methods are tried and tested there's no reason you can't bend the rules, which is basically what I was saying a few posts back.

I also should defend my choice of standing behind tree, not a bad idea IMO! :D
