...been on euro car parts and is giving a few options....0W-30 and 5W-30???

The one I’m thinking of getting is Castrol Edge FST 0W-30 (for no other reason than it’s the most expensive and you generally get what you pay for in life!)o_O (oh and there’s 35% off this weekend saving me £46:cool:)

Anyone know what JLR recommend?

Cheers:D

Hang fire...hang fire!!!!

It’s cheaper on amazon even without the “weekend” offer:rolleyes:

I still need to know whether that’s the right stuff though!o_O

5W30. I use Halfords 5w30 ford spec fully synthetic. Currently they have 4 litre cans on offer for £15 so you could get 8 litres and have 1 litre spare for £30. Normal price for 5Litre can is £29.

Always used Castrol Magnatec, latest version below.
I would not go below a 5w30 for this country's climate, 0w30 if you live in northern scotland etc.
Millers also do an excellent oil.

Not much difference between an 0w/30 and a 5w/30.
Unless you live above the Arctic Circle.
Possibly a fraction higher fuel consumption but l doubt you would notice.

Agree theres not a lot, both are good to +30C, the 5W30 is good to -20C thats way good enough for Blighty!
Whilst the 0w30 goes down to -30c i just feel that the viscosity properties it has to get it this low makes it a tad thin for a high compression diesel in our climate I am no expert but it makes sense, I was told this by an chemical engineer who works in oil business, but I expect everyone has a view and just comes down to personal preferance I guess.

Cheers for the heads up on Halfords deal, just bought myself 8 ltrs.

An oil with a 0w rating with contain better quality base oils. Castrol Edge 0w30 is a full PAO/Group 4 oil where Halfords Fully Synthetic 5w30 Ford spec oil will be a Group 3/super hydrocracked mineral based oil.

But never the less its more than adequate for the defender engine, I have used the correct 5w 30 grade oil in my TD5 for 12 years and engine is still as new. Even semi synthetic is perfectly fine.
