hi guys if you remember i had a real bad rain water leak in my drivers footwell last november and since had the carpet up trying to dry it out.ive fixed the leak and we have had very little rain since in spain ,but how long does that spounge underlay take to dry out its fine by the door but as you run your hands under the carpet towards the transmision tunnel it still seems very wet some months later ,could it be leaking from the heater or is it still drying out from last november ,has anyone taken out a carpet if so how long do you think it would take?
thanks for any help in advance
cheers andy:):)

I took my carpets out and stored them for weeks in a dry warm room. Took them outside and stood on them and they still left a wet mark on the floor.

Are your aircon drain tubes blocked and the water is backing up and leaking into the footwell?

hi neilt
its amazing how much water they take plenty to survive a desert trip if you ran out of water!these tubes where would i find these .how long to get the carpets out is it an easy job neilt
thanks andy

Def need to cut the sponge out and dry inside the house - it will take a week even inside ! I've just done this and hopefully fixed the leaks ( or at least the ones I could see !)

I am not technical so excuse the terminology. The drain tubes poke through from inside the car out under the car either side of the centre console near the dashboard. You can reach them by lying under the car. They are only small and are rubber.
You need to squeeze the end of them to see if they are blocked but be warned if they are you will get an armful of water.

Taking the carpets out is not difficult just time consuming as you have to remove front seats, centre console, cd changer & amp and lots of trim and you then have to put everything back to drive the car and remove it all again to refit the carpets. I didn’t have a star socket which is needed to unbolt the seats so check you have one before you start.

If you find that your aircon drains are blocked then I would be tempted to try and dry the carpets in situ. Maybe hiring a dehumidifier would help.

thanks guys for your help ill have a look under the car and have a squeeze of my tubes!and then ill go from there just hope i dont need to take the carpets out fingers crossed.
thanks again andy

hi
just got under the car to have a squeeze of my tubes but i cant find them, does anyone have a picture or a big clue where to look by the gearbox.
thank you
andy

They're on the inner side of the "hump" that goes over the bell housing not very far behind the bulkhead. If you can lie underneath and look up you should see them.

They're not tubes as such just little rubber things about 1 inch long, with a cross cut in the ends. I took mine off as they're well out of the way, and fitted a pipe to the n/s one to take the water away from the XYZ switch.

Wet front carpet .Sun roof could be leaking, if the car has one.I was told by a friend who works at LR dealer to investigate sunroof I removed head lining and could not find the cause ,no blocked drains etc.I have solved the problem by applying a very thin bead of sealant between the roof and plasticframe on the out side of the car,I was also told that the sunroof frame can warp which can allow water through into the head lining which then finds its way into lower down places, hope this is of help to any one with same problem.

if it heater matrix then windscreen would keep misting up no matter how long you kept heater fan on it or kept wiping screen with a cloth, took me a while before i sussed

I took the carpets out of my TD5 to dry them out. It was pretty easy really. The seats are only held in with four bolts. I just took the front bolts out and tilted the seats back, but would have been better just taking them totally out. With the carpets stood up on end they dried out pretty quickly in the summer. There's full instructions in the RAVE CD.

That was 2 years ago and I never bothered putting them back. The car still leaks a bit from somewhere but I don't care too much as there is no carpet to soak it up. Maybe a job for this summer.
