Freelander 1 Wet carpet

That I don't know - I always thought it did a self test each time - but maybe there's a code that needs clearing with diag kit.

Over my Christmas break I shall have to get the wife to run a hose over various parts of the car whilst I am inside watching for a leak.

Dippypud - genius idea ! Simple but genius !

I have had to abandon removing the carpet.
The only way to remove it would be to cut it at the very front under the heater area as some things go through the carpet, rather than the carpet being cut to go around them.
So it's back to the heater for now.

I need to use the car tomorrow and Tuesday then have 14 days off, so I will put the heater and a dehumidifier in for a few days then.

I think I might try and get some cardboard to put under the carpet in the hope it absorbs some of the water from the sponge backing of the carpet.

Does anyone have any other ideas of what to use to try and suck up the liquid from the sponge backing?
I might upset the wife and use our towel supply.
I will explain that it's and emergency.

Hire a wet vac ..

Just had an idea of where the water may be coming from.

Not so long ago, I replaced the rear drivers side door window regulator.
I wonder if I didn't reseal the door properly?

I shall concentrate on that area first when pouring water over the car to find the leak.

OK, I believe I am getting closer to finding the source of the leak.
Looking in the drivers door, down to the right just below where the bonnet opening lever is.
There is a load of wiring and next to that an opening in the bodywork which has foam in the opening.
The foam was soaking wet and the lower part was sticking out of the opening into the cab and it seems that water was dripping down close to the accelerator pedal.
I have pushed the foam all the way inside the opening as it seems to supposed to be there and not a bodge job to stop a leak.
So, where would the source of the water be that runs down to this opening and is the foam supposed to be a barrier to stop it entering the cab?
I find that hard to believe.

I can't be sure that it did actually rain last night but the area under the foam was completely water free this morning.
We have heavy rain forecast tomorrow, so will check it again tomorrow.

With all this rain I think we all need to be on our guard for leaks such as this hope you solve it.

It looks like I am right so far, but I am waiting for the heavy rain later today to prove or disprove my theory.
We have only had light rain. I know I could use a hose but have been busy doing Christmassy stuff.
Will concentrate on the car from Sunday onwards.

my wife has solved mine she remembers us going through a very deep puddle and she has dried it out and while I was I hospital having my new knee she kept an eye on it no more water in the car and we have had lots so when I am a bit better I will be looking as the door seal at the bottom blood useless things

So the wet patch is only under the drivers seat. Mmmmmmmm

Well, despite promised heavy rain in every weather forecast, it has not happened, so I have had to deploy the hosepipe.
It does look at the moment that I have found and cured the leak. It does seem to be the sponge that was hanging slightly into the cab and dripping.
I used the talcum powder suggestion and cannot see anymore water entering the cab.
So now the drying process begins in earnest.
One powerful fan heater and a dehumidifier.
Must be costing me a fortune for electricity but it has to be done.

out off interest what is the yellow and green wires for.

Not 100% sure but I think the towbar electrics. They were there when I bought it.

Friend of mine had wet carpets on his bmw ,it was eventually traced to the membrane on the door being split, water was working its way through ,this sometimes happens if door panel has been off as it often gets damaged ,hope this is of some use . ps he had already replaced the door seal but it still leaked .

Above the door on the outside is a plastic trim that goes right across the back.
Prize off the two side trims as these hold the top trim in place, unclip the top trim and if the screws are not to rotten to remove, take them out.
Cover around the screw holes with sealer and put the screws back, just cover the screws if you cant get them out.
The factory fit stupid foam seals behind them screws, the foam rots away and in comes the water,
Its a simple fix thats far easier than stripping things down and taking carpets out to find bung holes etc.
Remember the side trims just pull off and the top trim unclips top and bottom

I have tried to remove the two side trims by prising them off but they are not budging and I am wary of damaging them.
I am heavy handed and often break things.

Can someone explain exactly how they come off?

I had this issue about a year or so ago and it was the matrix, not sure if anyone has suggested this but if you get some white tissue paper blot the liquid and see if its coolant colour if not its your seals.
I had a look a a few how to things on doing it and it looked like a right **** of a job so I got some Kseal. I put a bottle of this in and it fixed it, heater isnt that good but it doesnt leak now although because the cars not wet it doesnt steam up that much anymore. The heater wasnt any worse for sealing it, heard loads of stories about how you shouldnt use kseal but it worked for me and engine is running fine still well over 200k miles now. Doesnt over heat.

My mate has a lotus with the kseries engine he used it 3 years ago now as the coolant was leaking, i think it runs through the chassis and he used it on his and again still fine, its really cheap worth a shot.
