Wet boot - rear door seal?

I have tried searching for this topic with nojoy. What is the issue with the rear door seal, my cubby hole in the boot gets quite wet. Is there a solution to this. I don't want to just fit a new seal if there is a design problem. If anyone knows an inexpensive modification i could do that would be ideal.

i worked on the freelander and used to fit the rear door seal ! they had major problems with seals leaking 3 dr being worse make sure it is fitted corectly pushed home and not kinked etc espeally the corners

So its all YOUR fault, then - is it ?

Already checked and it seems to be fitted correctly. The seal is wet when the door is opened after rain on the bottom half both sides. Will a new seal fix the problem or will it happen again.

could be leaking at top and collecting at the bottom get in car and get someone to spray water over it .near seal should fix is it 3 dr or 5 as 5 door is glued on

could be ! all i know is i got lots of overtime changing them !!!

I had the same problem, i took off the seal and hammered the metal (about 2inches from bottom fight corner as you look at it) a few degrees down towards the bumper then replaced the seal , no wet boot now !!!.

When i stated "replaced the seal" i put the original seal back on.

It's a 5 door and the top half of the seal, including around the window, is completely dry. I was thinking about running mastic around the seal to try and 'pad it out' to create a better seal. A new seal is a bit pricey for what it is. Also if it's glued on it could be a right pain to remove.

I want a job there ! first of all you fit them wrong, then get overtime to put it right !

In the past this has been covered already and was remedied by cutting two holes in the underside of the seal, about 20 cm from each corner. I noticed in my seal there are two holes punched in already. Maybe they found out this was the problem?

Mine is the 5 doors too, the water ingress was coming in from where i bent the metal down with a 6lb hammer and a cloth on the metal so not to cause any damage to the metal

easy way to ease the water collection I found, was to drill a couple of holes in the bottom left side of the storage compartment, doesn`t stop the leak but at least the water can drain out.

Just checked my seal and I already have the two holes cut into it. The water seems to be getting in at the botton and going under the trim panel. Going to try the mastic option this weekend.

A friend of mine found out that water is coming in boot compartment as a result of condensation.

under boot compartment is exhaust and above it there is no insulation.

After installing some insulation he didn't have no more moisture or water in this compartment.

I agree with lovrod, mine is caused by condensation too

Guess mine was caused by condensation too!

But after the rear exhaust box fell off and it was refitted it does not happen anymore

Hi,I has the same problem but cured it with a cunning bit of work with some black silicone sealant to pad out the seal where the rear door first touches the seal when you close the door.

This has been covered loads of times - try searching for "cubby".

See if the roof lining at the back window is wet next time it rains, if so then here is the fix.
You need to remove the black trim around the top and sides of the outside of the rear window.(Three pieces in total) Be very careful as the clips will break, you'll probably need to buy new clips. Once the trim has been removed, remove the metal bracket which is held on to the back of the roof with five screws. Once this is off you'll notice the white plastic grommets, remove these, clean them and the back of the roof. I put 'o' rings around them and window mastic (it's black gooey stuff that stays soft so it seals really well) Once you've done that you can put it back together.
