After reading this forum for a few months I've finially bought a P38 4.0l 97 on an R just over 100k miles dark grey almost black (not to sure of the shade) Grey leather all the usual stuff, my best mate has owned it for the last 3 years and two owners before him with full dealer service history upto 80k got it for £3400 with 6 months tax full years mot and three new tyres does this sound fair?
Pick it up on Tuesday only 3 more sleeps to go :D

I think it's Niagra Grey?

Look after it is my advice - your car is at the tender stage in it's life where it's out of the main dealer servicing network and, let's be honest, it won't get as much money spent on it as it used to. So yeah, oil and filter changes as normal, but don't skip all the other bits like getting under it and checking/greasing joints and the like.

RR servicing parts are cheap as chips to stock up when you can, Paddocks has free delivery over £50, so I buy that much at a time every so often whether I need the bits then or not.

I feel like it's the 23rd of Dec and only two more sleeps to go.:D I almost bought one about 8 years ago but my then fiancee said "stupid big cars don't expect me to get in it". So I never bought it an have regretted it ever since needless to say not long after she made that statement the fiancee went to :) :)

Have you driven one much before? I transitioned from a Volvo T5 to a P38 and for the first few weeks I thought "What have I done?". After six months of ownership I would kill for my P38. I could never go back to a normal car again.

Regardless of cost you sound very happy, so thats money well spent. I'm sure you will have lots of fun. As has been said before, regular oil changes using good oil will reap rewards. As a guide my 4.6 has 147000 miles on her and I have only just changed the air springs and refurbished the EAS compressor, never had a problem with the system but the air springs were looking a bit past their best so I swapped these for new and did the compressor at the same time, a bit of prevention better than cure you could say. Post some pics when you pick your up and tell us all how you are enjoying your Range Rover

Only one day to go....

Strange vehicles Range Rovers they grow on you, you love them or hate them, sometimes at the same time. When I first drove my Classic it was like going back in time, heavy lumbering and loads of noise etc. but over a period of time and with the help of forum members I have a beautiful car to drive, quieter and smooth to drive, also starts first time now. I dont like to drive my little runabout now, strange because before I got the Classic I was delighted with it.
One thing to bear in mind is they are complex and just like any other complex item need plenty of TLC, as the other members have said frequent oil changes with quality oil, decent filters and don't forget to gease. They do cost a lot to run and maintain, but you have a beautiful comfy car.
I've got hooked and are looking for a LPG P38.
Well done and welcome to the Range Rover family, keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

Well I picked the P38 up yesterday and wow :D it's excellent love the driving position. The car has covered just over 110,000 miles full main dealer service until 84,000 (3 years ago) Until my friens bought it. It's been regularly serviced and running on synthetic oil new compressor for eas have covered mixed driving conditions including sitting in traffic for 30 minutes and the temp gauge never went above half way, managed to get 22pmg on the M8 ). I have a picture but it's too large to attach if anyone can resize it I will gladly email it.

The only thing is when I was looking through the service book on the owner information page it looks like it's R reg it was first registered 02/1997 but when my friend removed his private plated the DVLA have returned it on a P plate would 02/1997 have been P or R reg?
