my mate has a 300 tdi disco which needs some welding doin on it

it needs both inner front wings and arches replacing
there are a couple of holes in the footwells
and a small amount of rust on the boot floor but not bad enough to replace the whole floor, and some minor work to bulkhead
all the carpets have been removed

now the guy whos looked at it said he needs to remove the wiring as theres a risk of it being burnt.
hes quoted £600

sounds like a lot to me..
whats the goin rate for this sort of welding?

ta

I was quoted £160 plus VAT from a garage for 3 one inch holes on my rear cross member, but got someone els , a friend of a friend for £50 bucks. Or like I have been thinking, you could do a welding course?

Had rear cross member choped out, new cross member fitted (including parts) and new copper break pipes fitted for just over £300 from a bloke in essex (cash)

£600 is a lot of money for a welding job, for less money you could buy your own mig set and the repair panels and do it your self. I do all my own welding, have done for years, but i'm very wary about taking on other peoples jobs as it's a tricky thing to put a price on, but it can be a really ****ty job to do if the cars a complete rust bucket. If you do decide to get awelder and have a go then get a half decent mig set 150amp min, with a co2 bottle from a pub, don't get a gasless one they're ****.

i'v turned jobs down cause they were in excess of hundreds of hours work on rusty heaps of **** so i couldnt put a price on a lifes work , if its too bigger / too expensive , do it yer self, it costs nothing and is a good way to learn

at £600 he's just covering his arse in case it goes tits up, or in case he drops a bollock and just in case the customer turns out to be a right t wat
