Hi guys had my disco 1 about 3 months now and enjoying using it for offroading at pay and plays but it is in need of some welding. I'm a mechanic so my skills are quite good at most things but never welded before as I worked in a Mercedes dealers before moving to Rac. Anyway I need to buy a welder and I want a gas welder as gas less looks crap. Basically I need advise and recommendations on what to buy as I don't want to spend the earth as it won't be used to often. Budget I'd guess is around 200 ish tbh. Also how do I go about getting gas at a reasonable price. Sorry for long post but cheers guys

Search is great I will agree but there were no recent posts for current models and deals ATM that's why I asked.
I live in wolverhampton v8 man

Have a look at the Forum on the site above. Avoid SIP, as they have feed problems, but Clarke seem good, the couple I have used worked well. Ever since I got a proper SWP mig I never looked back.

For home work I don't think you can go far wrong with the Clarke machines, I had a 100E for 20+ years but that model is not up to chassis work on a Land Rover. I now have the 150 amp gas/no gas machine. For cheap gas I use a pub CO2 cylinder and get it refilled for about £10, the purists will tell you its not as good/neat/strong/easy as argon mix but its fine for sticking old Land Rovers back together.

as above.
self taught and still learning. got mine on a vat free day from machine mart.
just done some chassis patching and it went straight through its mot last week:)

Sounds like a trip to machine Mary I guess then. I need to be sure though it will go down to 25-30 amps so I don't blow holes in the body I guess

Machine Mary? Got her number, she sounds like a go-er.

If you're after a welder mate check out eBay. I got a cracking deal on there for bugger all, top of the range MIG with gauntlets, gas etc... Machine Mart don't stock anything that great and they're bloody expensive

She's great buddy until she broke and no welder to fix lol. I'm looking on the bay and seen a cebora 880 pocket mig locally to me but looks very basic ie high low and wire speed so not sure if this will do what i need for disco of will it blow holes? Any advise guys?

Just look up the specs and see what the lowest setting is. I've welded bodywork steel with mine on the lowest setting and it does fine but will blow holes easily if I go any higher.
