Hi guys, got a problem with the steering on my 90 defender, steering has been fine for 5 years, out green lanin today and cannot achieve full right hand lock, well when wheels are stright I get 2 full turns of steering wheel to left but only 1 full turn to the right, so have very little right hand lock, had a look nothing obvious broken and if I was to try and correct it my steering wheel would be upside down!! Any ideas or similar problems. Perry

Has one of your steering linkages slipped and rotated? I get about 1 and 3/4 each way

Not that I can see, I initially thought that I may have rounded one of the linkages but there is no play when enging off and attempting to steer, would have thought it would have slipped again under pressure

Is the steering wheel in the 'normal' position when the wheels are straight?

Yes it is stright ahead, that's what confusing me, I could understand if not stright as something may have slipped but dead stright, as I say 2 full turns of steering wheel to left and only 1 to the right

Jack the front end up and support the axle on stands so the wheels are airborne, disconnect the drop arm track rod end and try again, if it's still the same then that would suggest the steering box or column and you should be able to move the wheels by hand lock to lock

I will try first thing in morning. Cheers

Well after stripping power steering box down to find no faults and checking all joint etc again, my neighbour popped over to tell us all that the drop arm was hitting the steering guard which ad been perfectly bent, boy do I feel like a wally. Lol. Thanks for all help anyway, at least my steering system has had a through check. Lol
