Weird! Fuel gauge and speedo failure!

Just checking things over for Tuesdays MOT and noticed the speedo and fuel gauge both not working today.

Any ideas why both would fail at the same time?

power or earth.
most likely voltage regulator

The fuel gauge on a Td5 has its signal fed through the speedo head.

Check your fuses. Then check the plugs and wires on the back of the gauges for security.

Earth is another possibility as above. Shouldn't be any voltage regulators on anything newer than a Series III, other than that in the alternator.

Fuses all good, connections all good.

Had a spare speedo from the previous owner who had a problem but it sorted itsself so he never put the new one in!

Installing the new one seems to have sorted it, although wasn't able to record the mileage accurately.
