Series 3 Weber Carb and choke lever on steering column

The standard (Zenith carb) Series 3 choke cable is slightly too short to use with the Weber. So you end up using the Weber choke cable and locating it somewhere on the dash or the bulkhead. I don't think the Weber cable will fit the steering lock. I've been meaning to make up a longer version of the Zenith cable (with the switch for the cold start light), but it's one of those jobs that never seems to happen.
Let us know how you get on...

Do you remember what the difference in length is?

Can’t remember if mg midget are longer choke cables(that’s if the landrover ones don’t fit)

If the length is wrong maybe pull the inner out of existing and put in new outer, or trim outer a bit if it’s only 1/2” .

Think OP just needs to get it all in front of him, I am sure it could be worked out:) with a bit of Heath Robinson.

I don't think it's a big difference - maybe a couple of inches, but enough that the outer cable doesn't reach the cable clamp on the Weber. I'm sure some Heath Robinson would get it working, but I'm using the Weber cable until I have time to sort it out.
I don't think you can remove the inner from the original cable as it has a section for the cold start warning light with (if I remember correctly) some kind of slot cut into it to turn the light on/off. But if you're not bothered about the warning light, a longer cable that fits the steering lock should work.

Hi, I recently had same issue when I fitted a Weber 34 ICH. I used a generic aftermarket choke cable, bought at an autojumble so have no specific details on it, removed the original from the steering column and fed new one through same path. The new cable is secured by clamping to the plastic steering column trim rather than the tiny grub screw the original used.

I’ve got a petrol choke running through the bulkhead below beside the dashboard. It’s BL style knob. Did this when I converted from diesel to petrol. Don’t try to get too clever just get a connection unless you’re wanting concours standard.
