Getting little tired of adjusting my two zenith cd 175's and was told that if I fitted the weber 500 I would never open the hood again in terms of adjusting the carb!!

Also told hat I'll gain some more power and likely better economi?

Downside is that the weber is rather expensive so is it worth it? Any of you guys have first hand experience with converting to Weber 500 - good and bad

Thanks

the Weber a good street performer but you may find off road it may limit where you can go (angle wise) the cd 175 are more suitable for off road use

Cheers Rappy1 - not first time I hear that, but also talked to others doing off road which have not experienced problem!! Not going to spend that much money if I get less reliability in the bush :)

I have experienced it in a few vehicles (old fj40 landcruiser and suzuki) mainly when on steep angles crossing sand dunes on the beach. Its to do with the float on them. Have a good search on the web. The fitment of them has a lot to do with avoiding problems

yes medusa put me off as half the lanes are at an angle to left or right and it dies on them from fuel starvation with the webber

when my mates got stuck they were not what i would class as extreme angles. Lucky i was in a diesel and able to tow them out without being affected.
In this instant it was more an up down angle with a slight sideways lift as well.
from what i have seen the Holly carb suffers the same problem.
Its more a case of the Strombergs being very good off road. I am not sure if Edelbrock carbs would be any better.

webber 500 a bit too big for a 3.5 really - better off with the 390

Tanks to All - Your input really madeg me reconsider fitting the weber 500 - it is lots of money and with that I want 100% reliability. Then I'll rather continue having to open the bonnet now and then for adjustments

conclusion reached but I have su's so I am adjusting more often than you lol

I see on ebay they had a cheap carb balance tool which would be very handy if you are suffering problems with getting the carbs balanced

What kind of angles are we talking about here guys? extreme off road courses? Is it mostly side angles or also up/down?

Not an off road course just some Hampshire green lanes like this

Could always consider a Holley or Edelbrock

Edelbrock is the manifold not the carb.

elderbrock is the same carb no?

the holly is even worse as the floats front to back so it wont go up steep slopes

exactly!

Love my V8 to bits but gave in to a diesel in the end. V8 is now sorn waiting the 2015 price increase LMAO.

Also my understanding Fett - on the market in the US as Edelbrock to sell better I guess?

Yeah guess I'll live with the zenith for now and do he adjustments like all others ;) so balance tool might come in handy
