Hi

I'm getting my defender ready for winter runs to the Alps and I'm looking to fit a coolant heater and an air heater. Most advice for fuel pickup seems to be drop the tank and add a standpipe (since i'll need 2 heaters either a double or T off the new pipe) however I saw a post suggesting that "The Winterised Wolf uses a pipe from one of the Fuel Sedimentor blanking plugs to draw off fuel" has anyone tried this method? Pros/Cons

Any general tips for installing both types of heater would also be much appreciated

I know its a faff but I would drop the tank and fit two separate pick pipes that way one system failing for whatever reason doesnt effect the other.
If you can mount the thermotop one lower than the header tank it makes bleeding the coolant a lot easier.
Make sure you mount the fuel pumps with the proper little rubber clamps otherwise the constant ticking will drive you nuts at night.
Thermotop plumbing I think I used the cab heater pipes to break into the system done this on a few motors, disco tdi, def tdi, merc v8 petrol, disco 300.

personally I cant see a problem taking the pick up line from the sedimentor, my winterised defender (pre wolf) takes it webasto pick up line line from the fuel filter (right hand rear pick up line) mounted to the bulkhead which is the same housing as the sedimentor mounted behind my fuel tank on the chassis leg but with a filter not a sediment collector (obviously)

I think it's because if you get air ingress on the heater circuit the engine will also play up.
Putting a pipe direct into the fuel tank won't affect the engine running regardless of heater issues.

Surely thats just a case of making sure there are not air leaks?

I cant understand why another pickup is needed - I dont know where you are mounting the heater, but you can get double banjo bolts - if there is enough clearence on the top of your (i assume) spin on filter, then why not just take from that?

(or is it the center tapping thats the inlet - i really cant remember, but the same goes either way)

ps. i swapped the engine in my 101 from a petrol to a diesel. I swapped the eberspacher b4 for a d2.

,,,and then found that the d2s wont run on my fuel - so i need a separate tank anyhow. Kind of may as well have kept the b2!

Totally separate systems era what you want so as mentioned above if any part of the new kit packs up its only the one heater packs up and everything else just keeps on running as its meant to.
