getting serious wear on outer edge of rear tyres - 5door manual F1 1998. Im told tracking out, bushes might be worn, not a common problem (from a 4x4 'specialist'. Of course I am reluctant to just leave it with this 'specialist' to run up a serious investigation bill, so thought I would ask you guys for your experiences and advice - hope somebody can help.

Oh, and erm, while yer looking at yer tyres make sure they're all the same make, model, and size. Most warn on the front, wiv least warn on the rears. Or all the same worn. Un yer may like ta do the vcu check below ta check yer vcu beans as yer new. :)

Thanks Hippo - I'm ok about tyre wear on the front of vehicles and when tracking/alignment needs attention, but never had this on the rear of a vehicle which is why I am asking specifics about the F1. All wheels are same and tyres are all Goodyear Wranglers 215/65/R16. Not sure what the VCU test results imply - does seized VCU cause this problem?

vcu problems will cause castilations - castle wall -_-_-_-_- and leading edge wear. Just added the vcu check thing in as it's good to do.

Rear wheels on a Freelander 1's have caster and camber settings - think I got me words right there. If the rears are out, then you'll need a 4 wheels alignment doing. You could try the fishing wire method: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/4-wheel-alignment-158853.html to see how much out they are. Is anything bent underneath like rod arm things?

Thanks Hippo. I'm going to go for the 4 wheel alignment check at a garage not too far away which I have been told tonight is free if everything is ok, or £40 + VAT if it needs adjustment + parts. Bite the bullet!
Cheers

Sounds good. Just make sure they do actually check and adjust the rear wheels as well as the fronts. Had a 4x4 laser track done on mine, and found out after it was only the front wheels adjusted, with reference to the rears. And they were wrong when it went to another garage straight after. Bastids.
