weak springs?

I've got the standard oe springs on my disco 1996
Someone today said they seem a bit weak/sloppy
does this happen?
I feel every bump in the road
 
yep, it happens. I recently changed mine and couldn't believe the difference. Hadn't realised what I'd been suffering through until I'd changed them out
 
As said, it happens to us all ...

Might be worth checking the shocks at the same time .. ;)
 
yep, my tranny was always an "adventure" to drive when fully laden, now with new springs it handles really well when full, so yes old springs do go sloppy. How are the shocks?

EDIT: you beat me to it paul D! ps I had a rear shock snap in half on my Landy and I didnt realise until I went round a bad bumpy bend and the problem "presented" itself to me!

had a shock off recently, was resistance there...

My problem is it banging around mostly with no weight in it at all
 
do em all, lift it whilst you're at it, it will stop you asking why the big tyres you are gonna ask about dont fit properly and rub on the arches,. then do the cranked arms to stop you asking about the loss of the self centre with the steering and the wide angled props to stop you muttering about having slack in the drivetrain on take up when the UJs start to go, oh and you might as well get an X-brake too as the handbrake is bound to play up at some point, should i go on?

Just cos one appears to work it doesn't mean the rest are! If they're original they're most likely at least past there best if not knackered, not to mention the bushes! You'll find new shocks and springs will transform it even if your old stuff seems ok ish! You just need to decide on oe replacement, standard but uprated, lifted, dislocating, silly travel, lowered if you're weird;), etc etc. then lowered shock mounts, raised shock mounts, dislocating systems, cranked arms and so on, then there's increased stress on other components, from the lift, travel and massive knobbly tyres you'll no doubt fit!!!!! Then you'll think flower arranging was a cheaper hobby:)

Did the Tranny shock prob ever present itself on the front , by appearing through the floor next to your right leg ? We had that happen on the mk2 transits we ran at my old firm a couple of times . Mind you , we did work them to capacity - when I noticed the rear leaf springs having an upwards curve we went over to Dodge 50s for that type of job .
 
When I noticed that Scratchee's springs were 'passed their best' (i.e. hitting the bump stops on the smallest of speed ramps, pot holes, cyclists) I did a bit of research and went for Terrafirma shocks and shiny blue Bearmach springs. Although I went heavy duty as I carry some big loads from time to time...

Land Rover Mail Order 4x4 did me a good deal...
 
I would have thought weak springs would make it sit lower, yes. But before I changed mine out I didn't think it was sitting lower either :lol:

But yeah, could be your shockies
 
I changed a shocker bush recently and as I had the shocker out I pulled the thing in and out and there was some resistance there....

Should you be able to do that fairly easily by hand? (Moving the shockers in and out?)

You know the (push the car down see how many times it wobbles test)....this seems ok but someone at a 4x4 shop wobbled the car from the gutterring side to side and thought something was weak....he thought springs, but5, the back end doesn't sag or sit low.......
So I think maybe change shocks first...

If it's bouncing up and down then I'd say it's the shockies. If it wobbled more than usual it's the shocks that are at fault, not the springs, as all extensive wobbling could possibly mean is springs that are too springy. It has to be the shocks if there is that much wobbling


(hope that makes sense :doh: I'll try again tomorrow afternoon :lol:)
