I have a 120k 300tdi XS on a 96 plate, an everytime I hit a speed bump at more than walking pace the front right suspension thumps the car like tyson, but there is no excessive bounce so, I am assuming that the shocks are fine but the spring is shot.

would that seem right ?

If so, I would rather change all four springs for standard height heavy duty ones (don't want to put a lift kit on it) and all four shocks while i'm at it, as it seems silly not to.

any advice would be good.

(any good springs for sale ? ....pm me)

when you have checked all visible components last port of call is damper valves noisy causing knocking.

No knocking whatsoever, just a massive whack as if the wheel is hitting the underside of the car when going over a speed hump, but it is only the right hand side, the left is fine.

no, can't be as it is only the right hand side and it makes no difference how big the speed hump is.
I take your point about the size of the speed bump, but the fact that its only the rhs doesn't mean its not a missing bump stop. You have two, one each side, if the rhs one was missing then it might allow the axle to hit the chassis when you go over a big enough speed bump.
