And the best news is it has a virtually new engine from landrover in it , probably the lowest milage engine I have ever had in my life!!!!:D:D

Stuart did a great job tuning and balencing the carbs up for me but we ran into a bit of a problem when we came to fit the later elec dizzy so I would like the benifit of you experiences guys.

The driver gear from the later elecronic dizzy does not fit on the bottom of the old points dizzy (which works very well) or match the oil pump gears which we found out after taking out the old one

anyway I was going to lpg this car after I rebuild a motor for it but the beauty is now I dont need to, however as far as we cant work out how to fit the later dizzy we will need to change the oil pump parts but I really have great oil pressure as the pump is nearly new (40psi at slow idle 50 at faster idle) so I would rather not swap these bits out for an aging used oil pump even if we face it off. I dont have mega bucks for a brand new pump as this is my 4th v8 (yes I still have 4 Im addicted)

just to throw another spanner in the works I was going to fit a sepentine front cover and belt system to the motor as I want to run an a/c pump too but again I dont really want to change to oil pump parts which have done loads of miles there either.

also I do some offroading now so I dont want black boxes on the wing for the electronics (luminition???) and I have heard mallory are ****e!!

So the real question (other than when is fett going to shut the fook up :p ) is:

1.can you go to electronic dizzy any other other way???

2. is there any other way of mounting an a/c compressor on 1972 3.5 with su's? that doesnt mean moving the alternator etc or fitting a serp front end?

Fit the Lumenition and forget it,A/C was done with vee belts until the end of the 93 or 94 model year, with the old R12 gas,its not hard to sort out a replacement gas for it without going to the r134a gas.

Fett,

I've got a bottom tailgate for an older RRC (external handle) thrown in the back of a shed. Its in as good nick as you'll see if you're interested. I bought it by chance to replace the tailgate on my old 92 but figured it would be too much work to make it fit.

lol , I have two good ones with external handles, its the internal handel I want to swap them over for

Do you know if you can fit a later internal handle tailgate to a 72 classic?

Thanks for the offer though mate:)

Ok , good input there mate, do you know where and cost of lumi? also how well do they waterproof the kit and do they last forever/reliable?- suitable for lpg?

I have the v belt a/c on my 1990 classic but the lay out of the ancilleries is totally different to the earlier 3.5 carb so that stumps me, I could make a bracket at work as we have a machine shop but without moving nearly all of the ancilleries there is no where to put it and no pully to run it and the rest of them which is whay I was thinking of going serp- but it does have the costs and drawbacks detlailed above.

Further thoughts guys please:)

Can't think why not, the sheet metal is virtually the same except for the hole for the handle. There might be a bit of tinkering to do to the hinges though but I can't remember exactly what.
