Has anybody on here used We Buy Any Car before to sell a vehicle. Their on line valuation has just valued my P38 at £3730.

Now before everybody tells me to bite their arm off do they usually quote this figure and then pull the motor to pieces when they look at it and assume you've gone that far so you'll take their offer what ever it is!!

I should point out it is a 4.6 vogue se 2002/02reg having covered only 67000 miles in great knick and LPG converted. Those last 2 points not even being asked on their questionnaire. They just asked make and model, number of owners, colour and mileage. Which makes me think I'm setting myself up for the big 'knock down'

If they honoured that price I don't think it's worth the hassle of selling it in the classifieds to gain probably very little. Perhaps I should post some piccies and see what you guys think.

Thanks for anybodies experiences using this lot.

IMO £3730 is not a great valued price for an '02 Vogue SE with that sort of mileage.
They tend to go for around £4000 - £5000 with higher mileage than yours.
Assuming yours is fault free, very tidy & LPG system is a well installed multi point then i would say you should be looking at nearer £5k for a private sale.

I agree martyn and mine does tick all those boxes. But as we all know a second hand motor is only worth what someone is willing to pay and there don't seem to be many people around willing to pay £5K for a P38!!

Although I haven't tried yet so who knows. Just basing it on higher valued P38's I've seen advertised that never seem to get sold.

My step son just sold his focus cmax tdci to them and got wot they said they would pay for it, it made me look a bit stupid as told him they will rip the crap out of it and offer you half wot they said.

Too true, but strange as it may seem there are folks out there who want a mint late model p38 who will pay.
I was offered £5k for mine earlier this year by a complete stranger & mine had over 130k on the clock at the time.
Unless your in a rush to sell i'd put it up on private sale & see what interest you get.

That's good to hear. Did they offer a fair price in the 1st place or did he take a bit of a hit to avoid hassle?

Not in a particular rush and would be quite happy to plod on with it, it's reliable and LPG keeps running costs acceptable. I'm looking to sell my LPG Transit which covers lots of miles and I like to keep my vans and cars running on the same jungle juice (for various reasons;)) Thanks to Boris I no longer get exemption in London using LPG so as I have to fork out a tenner a day for the privilege Diesel seems to be the only way to go.

The linked item seems to have been removed, perhaps Ebay thought it was an April fool, somebody asking over £1k for a P38!!

Its a tenner a day to run in london but arnt they going to be putting a fine on sitting in your Diesel car with it running or something?
And if its a later p38 like you say id sit on it a bit longer if you can. Look on the posts here more and more are about the early L322s....

Absolutely true.
They give you a high figure, you then pay an admin fee of about £70, then they rip it apart & offer you half. One instance with a member of my family is that they tried to tell them it had finance oweing & was on the hit list. The car was bought from the main dealer with just one previous owner.
When there offer was declined they told them to collect the car themselves, & at this time it was 200 miles away.
just keep your wits about you when dealing with them. Remember, they only make money when the car is sold on.

To be honest an L322 was not top of my priority list. The P38 is SWMBO chariot and she will be using my D3 for now. I had a test drive of a new Transit the other day (Years since I drove a new van) and I have to say it seemed a much better driving experience than a 12 year old P38!!! Only trouble is I need a MWB with a medium roof so a bit impractical as a car.

I've never used this process to sell a car but I had to make an appointment with a local place of theirs (3 miles away) and have the car appraised. Didn't realise they would take a fee before they give a final figure. They seems a sure fire receipe for disaster.

He got 2400 for it,it woz a 2005 but had only done 5300 from new, he woz happy with it, said the dealers were only 1500 to 1900 in PX.

That's how they come up with their figure about how much you can save using them instead of using a PX. Motor dealers just take the **** with PX's, they seem to want to make loads of money on the car your selling as well as the one you're buying!!

My wife sold her car with them
The price they offer is to temped you to go see them
then they make a phone call to there "under writers" and tell you the price of cars has dropped since you done it on line
and they then offer you less and then tell you about the admin fee

My wife's car was a year old and she bought it new so they couldn't find anything wrong with it so had to find other ways to knock the price

As we was having trouble selling it it was still the best way to go and after many stroppy phone calls from my wife they met us in the middle so not so bad in the end

Go down and see them just don't expect the price they have already offered "you can say no" and the fee is only charged at the end so you have nothing to loose

That's good to know. Might just waste a few precious hours and see what they say.

But didn't they do just that, offer an attractive amount, then turn up and moan about every little blemish, it was in the press about it.

Seems they have changed their ways:)

Don't they ask you to declare no faults in the contract?

I agree tho, asking prices are nowhere near sales prices. Dealers seem to start out asking double what they must have paid and knock them down if they don't sell. Traders pay a lot less than you or me to advertise most places. We have to be realistic or burn £30 on a reality check

Personally I'm scared of late v8 castings. Been looking lately at a replacement for my wife's volvo NOx factory. Seen a p38 in Wiltshire with a turner block (presumably top hat lingered). Since I live in durham , I'll not be popping down for a look. Still a bit salty at 4k

From what I've heard, they give a valuation depending on condition, but when they see the car, they insist it's not as good as you claimed and the offer goes down. I wouldn't be surprised if they claimed an LPG conversion would reduce the price too.

I have used them and they gave me a fair price they did knock a few pounds off for one or two scratches but that seemed fair to me the problem most people have is they think there car is worth more than it really is and they dont mention when applying all of the dents and scratches and when they get there and the salesman starts adding up all the bits they forgot to mention they think they are being ripped of.How many times have you gone to look at a car and the seller has told you that its immaculate only to find that its a heap of junk,
