Hi all,

On the long, hard road to getting a 8 years inactive Series to drive again.

I haven't confirmed it, but it seems quite likely that the cylinders will be seized... I've read that you can try to fix it with a penetrating oil. I have WD40, does that count or will it damage it? If so, what do I need?

Thanks!

If it is seized, you might be better squirting some paraffin into the cylinders.

That way, when you change your oil it will be thinned in with it.

However, if you get an FN great big bar onto a socket on the end of the flywheel and give it a good jerk, you might be able to free the engine that way.

It's a 2.6 petrol, sorry, should have said

On the contrary, the clutch pedal is too free, I suspect the hydraulics are shot...

definately stick diesel in the cylinders (through the spark plug holes) and leave a few days, before gently trying to turn the engine by hand.

If it doesnt work first time, try and try again, and then maybe try some light oil.

Gently does it so you dont brake anything.

Will diesel damage a petrol engine/stop it starting? I don't know much about which can go where...

Thanks :)

Well, we're not talking buckets ... :D

only a teaspoon or two down each bore ...

if in doubt, ask James Martin, he'll know ...

and as has been said try to turn it by hand ...

If the diesel frees the engine and gets it rotating just refit the spark plugs and try to start as normal.

The diesel is just to brake the seizure.

Another thing to try is proper full fat Coca cola.
This is very good at loosening rust in cylinders and piston rings

No damage will be done.

Do an oil change once engine is working properly and these alien fluids will be gone.

My father in law unseized his old bulldozer with coca cola in the cylinders. Left for a few days then used a long pry bar to slowly work the flywheel to free it. Like someone else said, change the oil after!:)
