I thought the ad for 'Landy Waxoyl Treatment' had been taken down, due to adverse comments?

I'm still in a flat spin as to where to take my RRC, so many differing opinions on this forum, but I guess at the end of the day there's nothing to beat personal experience. I really don't want the faff of taking the car half-way across the country (I live in Essex) & leaving it there, but I'm going to have to bite the bullet soon as I want it re-done (4 years since last treated) this summer, trouble is the last outfit's operation didn't overly impress me. :(

Are you absolutely adamant that you want it done by someone else? If you possibly can, it's much better to do your own. That way you can get the goo exactly where you want it in the quantity you want it, when it's needed. I've looked at some "professional" jobs on friends' cars and can see that whilst the material has been generously applied, it's been sprayed over the top of compacted road dirt, applied whilst the chassis was still wet, sprayed all over nuts, bolts, brake unions and things that you'll want to get undone again later, and so on. The underside of the car looks nice and black afterwards but it is not necessarily what you want. As a consequence, I've done my own, and will continue to do so.

Thanks for the reply to what has doubtless become a tedious subject to many, but this approach has been suggested to me before & the answer is: No driveway + bad back + arthritis = no inclination! Also if I remember rightly, Waxoyl can be applied successfully to surfaces with a thin layer of dry road dirt (as it soaks in) & the RR never off-roads, so it's not caked.

I agree with the comments about a poor job being possible where waxoyl is used before the underbody is cleaned. I had not alternative but to use a 3rd party supplier, as not only did I not have the correct equipment to do it myself, but not having a useable garage meant it would have had to be done on the road. Fortunately the place I used in Hatfield let me watch the cleaning process (and inspect the underbody before being waxoyled) but i as also able to watch the waxoyl being applied. After application the body was cleaned of any overspray and, 4 years later I remain happy with the job done. I regularly inspect the underside to check the waxoyl is still doing its job, particulary after a greenlane pressure wash:D

I had mine done at the same place/year as you Tazz but was not totally impressed. As we both know the details (& this industry is very sensitive to adverse comments) I won't mention names but wasn't happy with their drying process. The chassis coating started to flake off at the rear end shortly afterwards though admittedly, when I took the car back, the 'boss' did re-treat the effected areas & checked the rest of the application FOC but that's another round trip at my expense. I don't know about you but I found the facilities for customers appalling - I certainly didn't expect luxury but somewhere free of congealed Waxoyl to sit & a clean loo is surely not too much to expect as, due to the rural location, there is nowhere to go whilst you are waiting for 5/6 hours. As a result of my experiences I'm unsure whether to return this year for another treatment, despite the site being the closest to me.

I was warned beforehand about limited facilities, but he offered me the keys to a BMW, which I used to go into Hatfield and get lunch and coffee. You are right though, it seems common in the industry that they don't expect customers to wait, and I am aware of one (again no names), who won't let you watch!

If I do decide to take the plunge again I'll ask him about the Beemer as a trip into town would be great for me, Hatfield being my home town :)
What did you think of my comments re. the chassis treatment Tazz?

Nene Overland did my 90 very well. Very pleased with the result.

Yes they were one of my options, but when I enquired as to whether their published price included door cavities etc. the revised figure made my eyes water  Not only that, having to leave the RR there overnight meant extra cost for B&B. I'm not tight (really!) but when the total cost of the exercise starts to creep towards £900........

Jesus! My 90 was ~£440 just for the underside, Xmember etc.. inc the full health check, valet inside & out.

I drove down there then got a train home (booked well in advance + a 16-25 railcard only cost £12 return) train back next day and drove home.

Not a bad price, all in all for what you had done. Of course the cavity waxing, for which they charge extra for, is so important for a Classic & I'm sure I wouldn't get a rail ticket for anything like that price. Because of that I was also allowing for a night's B&B somewhere (at my age) reasonably comfortable
