Wave Etiquette

Oh on the same road I got my first wave the other day I got the wave from a defender today! I was so proud that I had qualified for one. I don't have a tricked up disco but also wasn't driving it like a ponce so I think I earned the nod of approval.

I get waves from Series and Fender drivers and will wave to them first if I'm awake enough but it's never occurred to me to wave at a Disco. Ooops, sorry guys. I am definitely not going to start waving at Freelanders though ... you have to draw the line somewhere. :p

I always wave at new rangie's in case there's a posh bird driving (they rarely notice)
City boys in new Defenders DON'T look at you like they think you want to befriend them to steal from them.

But as I've waved at so many Disco drivers that don't even give me puzzled look that I don't bother unless they wave first or it's obviously enthusiast owned. I had a standard looking Disco it was heartbreaking.

How does the waving etiquette view a fist in the air out of the window (or an ouch if it's closed)?

Don't forget if it wasn't for the Jeep we wouldn't have the Land Rover

Mrs Blip doesn't bother waving anymore - I guess a pretty girl in a shiny new 90 looks too much like school run mum so she gets ignored.

Cheers

Blippie

Two valid points that need addressing asap

Firstly a fist in the air is ok as long as it's palm facing the oncoming vehicle. ;)

If its reversed you maybe in danger of offending the other driver

Along with any other wave out off the window extreme care should be taken.

a, Ensure the window is actually wound down.
N.B. For those who don't go off roading this may not be readily apparent

b, Ensure you are not about to be overtaken. ;)

c, Please remember that this is ideally a summer time wave. You may be hard or indeed used to the cold (i.e. your from anywhere north of the M4 or drive a Defender ) but frost bite can set in quick, be especially aware of the wind chill effect.

and Secondly

We have not forgotten that if it wasn't for the original Jeep we wouldn't have the Land Rover, but also, we remember that if it wasn't for Landrovers a lot of modern Jeeps would still be stuck :p

I've started waving at Discos in my Defender, but have had nothing back yet :(

gotta be more selective mate only wave up to the 1's that look tricked up ,
ie;snorkel through to the whole lot :D lets face it it aint hard to spot um coming :D

Yup it happens, most Disco's except them thats modded for off roading same with Rangies, Freelanders and new Defenders too

Just remember it's their problem not yours. ;)

Your doin your bit :D :D

The salesman at the garage I bought the Defender from said he wouldn't sell me it I didn't promise to return / initiate waves.

Had the best wave ever from a Series 3 driver the other day, I give him a big old wave as I bet he is cold. He did the most enthusiastic, body jerking return wave ever. What a legend!

sounds like a desperate gaylander driver to me :D

:D Actually he's been into Defenders for years, he's even got a 130 with a microwave fitted for his ginsters pasties. He was telling me this the first time I met him

:Dsounds like a wannabe gaylander then :D
just extracting the urine mate fair do's to the guy , get fooked off meself with a lot of the ignorant coonts about (its ussually the farmers i get caught out with as they look durdy so think they could be like minded :D

Quick change to a single raised finger ?

Nope this wont do.

Please read the following

If it’s the proper place and time and you receive no reciprocal wave, don’t get your panties in a bunch and think you’ve just passed a jackass, because there are some acceptable reasons.

These reasons are as follows:
1) you weren’t seen,
2) Gear selection,
3) a head nod was substituted.

Unless of course as Buckshot says it's a slitty driver
