Hello,
Needing to replace coolant pump on 1987 110 V8.
Been told I need the unit with Viscous coupling for Fan. However mine has electric fan.
What I'm wondering is can I get away with buying the non-viscous fan pump and save myself the £££? i.e. this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371035231721?euid=3fb5ff0251d9489fbfc6296bce1fef54&cp=1

Seems to make sense to me, but would appreciate any advice from someone who has done he same.

thanks

yes you can , there are quite a few pumps due to the options of fan type if your not using the fan as long as pump doesnt stick into rad any will do

Many thanks James,

Just found out that the electric fan doesn't work. Considering whether to return to standard setup (viscous fan) or buy another electric fan and replace water pump with non fan version.
Main advantage I see of electric fan is ability to turn it off when going through deep water.

Any opinions on best setup?
Many thanks

E bay universal fan 16 inch approx 30 quid
Got one on both of my land rovers, one has been underwater many times and still works.

Given the V8s reputation for producing a lot of heat, and being susceptible to over heating, make sure you get a big enough fan. I used the twin kenlow set up, but is was expensive. maybe two of the 16 inch units above would be a better idea. Don't forget to power them via a relay - they draw quite a few amps.
