Stay out of it is about the only sensible thing you can do to a V8 where water is concerned.

For gentle splashing Buy a waterproof dizzy cover. and use waterproof plugcaps. lots of silicone and waterproof tape.

1) Spray loads of WD40 onto your distributor cap, HT leads and the coil.
2) Drive sensibly through the water.
3) Carry a long stick to gauge how deep the water is before proceeding.
4) Some people get a piece thin metal sheet and cut/shape it so it deflects any water away from the distributor.
5) Fit twin electric fans instead of the viscous fan; wire them so you can switch them off when going through the water. That way you dont spray it all over the electrics.

Go along with Pikey on this one. I take it you have the V8 with the distributor. I remember seeing an article on this one a few years ago and seem to remember that a metal cover is available which fitted over the dizzy cap and packed with silicone grease to prevent water ingress. Don't forget the wading plugs as well. Not sure what is available for the P38 but having the coils at the rear of the engine is a help as they are fairly well out of the line of fire of water thrown up, unlike the old dizzy which sat directy behind the fan.

I'm wiv Boomer. I go wading in me III with the water just breaking over the bonnet wiv no problem. I just put a tarp over the grill & switch me fan orf. Gorra snork & me axles & boxes are done, I do give it a liberal squirt of the ol' WD, but not had a problem yet..........................'cept me brakes are pony for twenny minutes or so afterwards...........................er, but then they weren't great twenny minutes before! :D

erm! i is sure i distinctly 'member a pic of Mondeo wiv a can of wd40 in is and under yo bonnet after a puddle!

i know - coz i was next - an sum bugger had driven orf with the wd40!!!

Aye, good squirt & it were fine......................not like your ol' ****ter! ;) ...........................oh, & I did fergit ter switch me fan orf AND close me flaps!

yeah but mine still had that finger chopper on it at the time. an it only took me a long time coz it took AGES to get the WD40 back (mind yu it was yours;)!
