Guys,

Do any of you know why I have a constant drip from the 'drain' at the base of the bell housing where the ZF transmission joins the engine?

Although it is using a bit of water I know of at least one hose which needs to be sorted out. Otherwise it is running fine.

I just cannot see how anything can be coming from within the bell housing unless something is cracked...

Or should I not worry?

Any ideas / experience welcomed

Thanks

Colin

sounds like a heater hose is leaking and running down the bell housing, or the core plug in the rear of the engine is leaking. what model and engine vehicle are we talking about, where are you as someone local might be able to help

Hi,

It cannot be from the gearbox...

Its a 3.9 V8 petrol.

Core plug now that has got me thinking...

I thought a heater hose but discounted that as it is coming from within the bell housing or at least from an engine component hidden by the bell housing.

I'm in Dundee Scotland which is a bit out of the way!

Cheers

Yeah two core plugs there , cant get to them unless you take off the box.

Try a can of K seal! worked on mine, its not those leaking on mine but I am just lazy lol:p

Air con may have been a possibility but its not fitted. Think i'll try some sealer through the cooling system first...don't fancy taking things apart just to find a drip...

Cheers guys

Does your car have the two compartments about 8" long just under the windscreen (under the bonnet) at either side. The lids have a screw at each side. Even though there is no Air Con you may still have the chambers up there which need to be drained for water ingress.

Thing is its been indoors for 18 months and not running so I'm minded to think its engine related, especially since after I started it the other weekend the drip became more pronounced.

Cheers for the idea though!

Obviously something dried out and given up the ghost when put into use again. Heater hose or jubilee clip? Newer P38s (post 99) have a pair of small hoses on the throttle housing that tend to perish. Can you get the system pressure tested?
