Water leak needs to be plugged...

Hi all, i tried searching for this one and it pulled up one similar fault but no answers to it.

I have a leak in the rear of my D1 here...

Its coming in along the seam of what looks like the roof and side panel. Its bad enough to make quite a puddle in the back in light rain.

Its no good sealing up the inside so i need to find out where the water gets in and seal that. Its not the alpines or sunroofs and its above the side windows so not them either. I have read the landrover tech bulletin regarding leaks but they go on about cant-rails and stuff and i wouldnt know a cant-rail if you shoved it up my arse;)

So where/how do i go about sealing this bugger up???

Any ideas??

I'd say it's coming in from behind the rear 1/4 panel and creeping. or under the gutter where it joins the side panel.

Though having just had a 2nd look at the pic you deffo have a leak in the alpine light. and it could be creeping from there. get a hose and gently spray some water over the outside and see where it reappears.

Nah, the alpine DID leak once, Mr Tolley cured that nicely:) I have spent plenty of time with the hose, starting low and working upwards, all windows are dry, even under a flood! It starts to drip about 5 minutes after the gutter / roof / body joint gets wet. I just figure out the cross-section design of the joints to work out where the water is getting in.

Try removing your roofbars, the foam pads on mine were soaking up water and letting it into the cabin and run across the side rails to back corner of boot.
Shed loads of silicone RTV seemed to sort it..
 
Easy job mate, just need to remove a few screws ('oh ****' handles, sunroof switch console etc) take care not to bend it too much or you'll end up with a creased roof

Hi Peter,

Along the gutter where the straight run meets the corner at the back, under the trim strip, there is a taped joint. This is the source of the leak, I found this after sealing all the gutter, under the gutters and more. The trim strip makes it worse because it funnels the water from in the gutter to underneath where the tape was split. I have sealed the trim on as well, the gutter is totally watertight now and fills up when it rains!

I still have leaks, both side windows need new rubbers too as they are split at the corners and it ****es in there, at least it's an easy fix.

Hello lads,

I have the exact same problem on my Disco 95 model, and it is leaking on same place as pics shown but on both sides, it got so bad that Bottom boot plate had to be replaced and rewelded, now all i do is keep on top off it and keep it dry, but it gets a bit irritating, What would be the best way to solve this as it will make my Disco feel and smell better LOL, any help would be appreciated
 
As Dave said, get some decent sealant (sikaflex 221) and seal all along the gutters as the original seam sealer has probably cracked and lets water in the roof/side panel joint.Seems to have worked for me,do it once a year .

hi slimbob, did you take gutters off then seal or just seal on without removing gutters ta:confused:
