Hi people,

This is my first ever post so bear with me.

I have owned a 53 plate Disco TD5 for 12 months now, we love it! but what an eventfull experience it has been!

The latest in the list of time and money eating disorders is this,

Started to notice that the carpet was wet on the drivers side front footwell, so did all the usual checks, coolant level, missing grommets, blocked drains on the scuttle etc'.
Eventually sent it to my local guy to check it out. He said it was the sunroof seal at the front. I have since had both roofs re-sealed and carpet dried out.

Last week left it parked for a week whilst on a boat on the Broads. On return the carpet was wet again, hardly any rain by the way. On the way home i went round a corner in a lively fashion only to have my ankle burnt by hot water that appeared to shoot out of the footwell air vent!
Got back from the 450 mile round trip, checked coolant level. Still reading full!

Am i missing something totally bloody obvious?

Any help gratefully accepted

Been awat

check the air con drain tubes, they have a tendancy to block then water will backfill into the evaporator/heater box, this will be why it came out of the footwell vent.

The tubes are located just above the gearbox, pull the end out and water will pour out of the tube so be ready fo it! You can either leave the end out or cut it to prevent further blocking.

Thank you!

I said to the guy at the garage would it have owt to do with the air-con, oh definately not he said.

Looks like the best thing i will have done is register for this forum!

Best regards
Andy

Sounds like heater matrix. Horrible Job that one.

Where the carpet is wet/damp press your finger onto the carpet then taste it. If its' a sort of sweet taste it's coolant - leaking heater matrix. Alternatively, press a couple of sheets of kitchen paper onto the carpet and see if it is a red or green or blueish colour (depends on the colour of the anti-freeze). Hopefully it won't be in which case you have a leak from outside, have you pulled the carpet out - any clues - water track marks/rust?
