Hi guys,
I have a 1994 classic with the bmw tdi lump. I lent it to a "good" friend for an afternoon, and he decided to return the favour by filling her up with diesel. Well, to start with it was red diesel from a farm, and to make matters worse it was mixed with water. My question is this:
Do i kill him?
After draining the tank and replacing with clean derv, she still wont start, has anybody any ideas please.
I will be buggered if i will pay garage prices and would prefer to have a go myself.
thanks one and all, and what a great forum, i have learned a great deal.

Dave

Agricultural red diesel contains all sorts of crap including loads of sediment (its really only good for running dumper trucks and the like), its possible you could have a blocked filter and/or fuel lines, did you bleed the fuel system properly after you refilled the tank? does the in tank pump work?

A year or so ago, i had a defender Td5 come in on a truck with a non start problem, the tank was half full of red and about 2 inches of sediment was also in the bottom of the tank!!! It blocked the fuel lines & filter and killed the fuel pump in the tank.

Oh, yes you kill him!!!

thanks Clutchdust, thank god they have the internet in prisons so i could reply from my cell. got hold of him yesterday.
Thankfully I got hold of an old vax machine to suck everything out. Am taking a day off work today to change all filters etc and see if she will fire up. Will keep you posted.
