Hi, As part of an ongoing diagnostic I was looking at changing the wastegate actuator, genuine are over £300 if you can find one, cheap ebay about £20-£30, When the cheap one arrived I bench tested it and it cracks off at 3psi and is fully extended at 14 psi. my original one cracks off at 15 psi and is fully extended at 24 psi. The new one is never going to work at such low pressures. Do you agree ?

Hi. Both on the bench or the original one connected to the wastegate? once connected it can be adjusted by tightening the rod untill it works as it should....the original is a bit tight as 24psi is above the overboost limit, at max 20 it should be fully open, actually 20.6psi(1.42bar) is the factory overboost limit if the ECU is not remapped

Hi, Sierrafery, So are you saying you need to have it connected to the wastegate and then tension the rod compressing the spring to achieve the correct pressures. a pressure of 20.6 psi should be fully extended, do I need to worry about the crack off pressure Thanks

Yes, connect it to the wastegate and if the valve is same type as the original you should let 12 or 11 threads out from the adjuster's locknut toward the valve... if the original didnt fully open at 20psi it's possible that your turbo is not strong enough to overboost... or is it remapped? You can over tighten it on purpose first then go for a ride and if it overboosts release it one thread at a time and test drive it untill it doesnt overboost then you know that it's set to get the maximum boost possible cos the factory setting is to 1.3 bar while the overboost kicks in at 1.42 so you can get 1.4 out of it and being tight the low end boost is rising better... i have a manual boost controller too after the modulator which helps as well
