hi all new to Land Rover freelander and I have used your forum to help solve a few proplems with my td4 and found you all to be very helpful.
But now I’m stumped some one appears to have put a universal wastegate actuator on and Evan though I set it by vacuum pump to 15 inch’s hg Mercury on my hand pump still can not get any pre boost do any of you clever people know where I can get the correct one or how can I set this one to get pre boost thanks for any help

The TD4 uses a variable vane turbo. There's no wastegate, or need for one.
The vane actuator mechanism is vacuum operated by a vacuum motor. The vac motor is controlled by the vacuum solenoid.
There's no pre-setting as the EDC controls when and how much boost to apply, simply by modulating the vacuum motor, via the vac solenoid.
Modulation of the vac motor swings the vane actuator mechanism, so boosting or cutting boost as needed.

Your best bet is to remove any bodges and reinstall the correct components.

Hi sorry I know vane but when I went to check actuator it was missing a e clip and also bolts were fighting the internal spring all other vane turbos I’ve had did not fight spring when fitting or removing. So that’s why it’s been set to what I’ve done before on gt25 on a Ford Focus tdci and had pre boost then. Hats why I also think this is a universal actuator. Would you know where to obtain the correct one for the gt17 fitted on the td4

Are you using a google translator for this thread??

No I always shorten words saves on typing I mean Garrett 17 turbo on td4 i know there variable vane but still use a vaccum actuator to open close vanes run via solinoid but I cannot get the freelander to have any power when pulling away from junctions roundabouts boost is there in all other gears from about 1500/1700 revs just need advice on how to get it to give me what should be there from pull away

That's how they are. As long as you don't have any vacuum leaks, that's all you can do. The EDC controls boost pressure and when it comes on, but 1500 to 1700 is about right.
The only way to get it on boost faster, is to get it remapped and improve the exhaust system so gasses can get out.

Cheers will check vac pipes after I come back of holiday thought about vacuum pipes but haven’t found where to buy round my way by the meter so I could replace long one from turbo solidnoid to vacuum pump at front of engine

Hi all quick update was a vac pipe someone routed her valve pipe under the steel water pipe under fuel pipes melted right through all new pipe and now have power when I need it thanks for all your input
