Washing the cam belt housing??

Quick one…

Was looking at some pictures in the forum of when people changed their cambelt and the camblet housing was full of mud and sh!te…
Talking with a mate he was saying maybe you can wash it off? as it can't be as bad as wadding?

What he meant was putting a hose in the hole and just turn it on to flush all the mud and stuff? (if its any there….)

Would this be ok? or likely to do a bigger mess?

He's asking this because we've done about 5 days of green laning, going through some water and mud, nothing over the bonnet though, but last weekend he got stuck in muddy water for sometime up to the door sills...

That doesnt really answer my question does it? lol...

I know that changing the cam belt is the ultimate solution and to get peace of mind.. but was also wondering if flushing with water would make it any harm....

how much the cambelt kit, roughly? the belt, tensioners and all that?
 
The problem is , how do you know if the muds been washed out, water won't harm the cambelt, but mixed with grit It'll make a nice grinding paste which will wear the belt and pulley's.
 
when you do buy the kit put it on straight away.Don't put it in the shed for 18 months with the intention of doing it like me and yer cam belt snaps !

yeh.. I did think about that…
thing is if water doesn’t do any harm, it can be pressured in and get most dirt out, then stick a camera through the hole and see how its looking inside, if there's still dirt… get more water in.

But thanks for the quick comments, my main concern was really if all the water in would do any harm to the belt..

55? that's quite cheap, where from did you get it at that price?
It’s a real pain the arse doing the job though, been reading some tutorials and altough its feaseble, and I can use the C spanner I use on bikes suspensions to take the fan out, I would need to fabricate the other one to pull (something I cant remember) out..
