Ok, I am asking for a bit of advice really. I want to have a land rover that looks simmalar to these, and work just as good:

Want kind of parts e.t.c have been put on these? Also, what would be better, to just buy a land rover like the ones above, or to buy an old, decrepid model, and do it up?

Any web links e.t.c would be sweet. Thanks....

Ben

probs better to start with a not old but maybe a base one, and add what you need when u need it. good setof mud terrains should get u started nicely. see what others say :)

be cheaper in the long run to buy one already done up but then again you know if it looks like that it will have been thrashed off road. also depends on what u are like with spanners

yer, depends on your mechanical ability. spend your max £££ on your base vehicle (i suggest a 90) then as LRF said just mod as you go. start with new wheels/tires, diff guards, steering guards, snorkel then go for a 2"lift then start fiddling with the articulation then go for a front winch and bumper. twin battery's and split charge system. internal roll cage. D44 rear winch bumper with winch. swing away wheel carrier. beadlockers, elecetric diff lockers. uprates halfshalfs and drive flanges. double kardon propshafts, maybe a performace tune of the TDI200/300 in there? bigger intercooler, chip etc.

the list is endless...

sweet. Got any more suggestions?

Do you want a posing vehicle or an actual challenge truck?

If you want a landy that looks really hard, just go get a Tomb Raider special edition. It has all the shiny bits already bolted on.

If your not going to be using it really hard off road then hardened drive flanges, locking diffs, heavy duty halfshafts ect are going to be a waste of money as you wont need them!

Even a well used, high spec challenge 90 is going to cost you 10k.

In fact the OEC 90 that you've got a pic of is for sale right now on devon4x4.co.uk I think.

Well, I'd like the option to go off road, but yes, it will be a poser too :D

The OEC 90 is for sale, its quite a good price. Can I ask a silly question. How many seats does a bog standard hard top 90 have? I know the 110 has 12 or 13 inc driver...

Standard 90 hardtops have 3 if you include the middle seat.

110's no longer have seats in the load area due to new laws, so 12 seaters are out.

If your going to going mad off road then a truck cab is best as they are lighter and smaller. But its splitting hairs for the average driver.

If you want to use your landy for other stuff (as most people do) then get a hardtop. No glass to break like a station wagon but you still get secure load space.

The OEC 90 is lovely, no doubt about its quality either. But its a full on challenge truck.

Its going to be crap on the black stuff and your going to need to keep it in a vault as it'll get knicked in about 15 minutes if you leave it anywhere.

And dont even think about the cost of changing one of those Simex when it wears out in 3 days time!

Do you really need it?

Only if it's a brand new Defender. plenty of 12 seaters still out there.

hmmm. Maybe I dont need a serious offroader :) But I would like one to look like it. If I did get an old 110, would it be worth getting the engine serviced, as alot I see have some starship mileage? Maybe get a new gearbox too?

A thorough service of the engine is a good idea as the tappets will probably need shimming/adjusting. Plenty of independents round here to do that - Green-Oval near Elland Road is one that many on here recommend. Local to me is Newnham Street Motors, or Mike Hemmingway Vehicle Preparation.

As for boxes L.E.G.S. do a recon swap out while-u-wait service for gearboxes and transfer boxes. Allan from there posts/lurks in here from time to time. About £600-800 fitted for a part-ex recon box.
