Hi all, I’m about to purchase my first discovery 4. It’s from a main dealer. They are offering 12mnths warranty plus an additional 2 years, extra cost is around 900. It’s only done 44k with full LRSH. Yes or no to the warranty. Thanks in advance. Midlifesplurge

Welcome to the forum.

Ask the dealer some questions
1. is the crank covered?
2. is it their own warranty or a third party? really reallypush this point.

Then google the above questions.
LR deny there is an issue with the cranks, but their warranty supplier does not cover cranks as they are a known fail point!
Some countires had a recall for the cranks, what that entailed I have no idea, but if there was no issue why the recall?

I really like LRs, but I cannot bring myself to recommend them to anyone I know or anyone that asks.
Many have asked at work over the years, I gave them honest answers, not one bought a Land Rover.

Thanks for the info and advice. The dealer is LR approved. I’m told by them it has to meet very high standards to be sold by them. The salesman said it includes all parts and labour apart from tyres exhausts etc.

Be aware of the terms of a warranty. They often use the phrase “sudden and unexpected failure” or similar. This allows warranty companies to wriggle out of most issues as there is usually some sign that something will be on its way out. The crank might be the exception to this which is why it’s important to make sure it’s not specifically excluded under the warranty.

I had an Audi A3 previously which had issues and the phrase about sudden and unexpected failures meant the warranty was almost worthless in my opinion.

I thought the approved used LR warranty was 2 years not 1.
