Popped into my local dealer (Stratstone Stourbridge) today to get them to have a look at the problem with the car 'holding' gears (see my other thread. I was told some rather worrying news that might just be the final straw with Land Rover.

Apparently there is a 'hold' on the warranty on my car - this was apparently put in place about twelve months ago. The dealer traced the code back to a problem with the incorrect fuel being used.

I did put petrol in the car about 12 months ago and the car was towed in to Land Rover Hereford and the tank and lines were drained and cleaned out and off I went on my way the following day. - I was told by the dealer that this was the correct procedure as I had not even turned on the ignition let alone started the car. Stratstone are now claiming that the work should have included new fuel lines, new pump and new injectors and the bill should be around £3k. I pointed out to them that none of this was explained to me at the time and that I had only acted upon the advise of a Land Rover Dealer. Whilst sympathetic, they tell me that once a 'hold' has been put on a warranty it is virtually impossible to get it lifted.

Has anyone on here had any similar issues with a LR warranty, if so, I would really appreciate any ideas or hints about who to talk to and the best steps to take to get this sorted. I get the feeling this could be a long struggle!!!

but surely the "hold" would only refer to areas of the car which could have potentially been damaged by the fuelling error. Thus the gearbox would fall outside of this.
Alternatively, at the very least you should get a full refund of the warranty

for a hold to be put on warranty stratstone would have had to fill in a form and send it to land rover describing the repair that was caried out, as at the time it was noit a warranty repair lr would never no otherwise,
if the ignition was not turned on or the engine ran then a basic repair like the one u had should have been acceptable , you only ned injectors replaced if the engine was ran,

also the waranty stop would only apply to the engine and fuel system,

phone land rover customer care with your concerns , i cant see why they refusin to work on ur car

It transpires that the warranty 'hold' only refers to the fuel pump, fuel tank, fuel lines, injectors and basically anything that Land Rover Warranty decide that they dont feel like covering.

The "good" news is that it appears that the hold has been put on the warranty incorrectly - there are two seperate procedures for fuel contamination - one if the car has been started and one if it hasn't - I was daft enough to put the wrong fuel in but not daft enough to turn the key once I realised. Persons unknown had apparently reported the wrong procedure and they were not going to cover the work.

Although Land Rover Stourbridge were not directly to blame (in fact they were pretty sympathetic). I had to refuse to pay the £370 for a new fuel pump and insist on talking to the dealer principal to get to this stage. Incidentally my local independant Land Rover Specialist wanted £200 to supply and fit a new fuel pump (Ultimate Land Rover 01383 211688).

I know this isnt a huge amount of money but it can sometimes be worth holding your ground with LR dealers.
