Friend of mine has a facelift discovery 2 and has had his
Headlights stolen again😞

Last night around 11:30pm around cullingworth area west yorkshire

This is the secound time this week😳

Even had the alarms fitted

Kerp your eyes peeled😞

this is easy to sort out ,STOP BUYING THEM UNLESS YOU SEE THEM ON A VEHICLE FIRST !

Its possible to get either self adhesive or implanted coded chips (as used in cats, but also horse saddles) that are very small yet with an appropriate scanner can be read and the real user traced on a central database. Not fabulously expensive (will ask the wife if anyone is interested, she supplies them for saddles).

The big benefit is that anyone purchasing stolen headlights can check them and at the very least the seller can be done for handling stolen property and maybe we can put a stop to these scum bags. If anyone is local to BN8 4NU they could pop around and we could look at suitable hiding places on the lights, my D2 is non facelift...................

The major problem with all the "add-on" security identifiers; your chips, micro-dots, smart-water, etc. is that the purchaser and/or the police must be made aware that the devices are present before they can be scanned.

Thefts are always going to happen but as responsible owners we must take responsibility for our own property too.

Anything which can be done to make the removal of these headlights more difficult must be welcome. The only kind of marking which I can think of as useful would be something which can be seen immediately without the need for special equipment, and seen by the villains too, such as etching or engraving the registration number or VIN on the front of the lens, just as many owners have done with the window glass.

Yes we can and should stop buying these headlights from suppliers with "unknown credentials" since this just perpetuates the supply and demand, but replacing them from authorised suppliers can become very expensive, even when you do involve your insurance company.

My mate caught a fella trying to pinch his in his farm yard , he had got the one light out already. He gave him a clout and police told him he was lucky he wasn't charged with assault.

Yes think the glass etching is a more practical deterrent, some policing might help also! Actually if the parts could be made available far more cheaply it would mean it wouldnt be worth pinching them.........

Interesting, on airgunbbs (one of my other hobbies) a few members paid a visit to a couple of brothers in Cheltenham, who had been scamming airgun buyers for ages. Net result is one of the brothers is in prison.......

Might be an idea for a few LZ users to visit this chap and collect the lights in person........

I am all for retribution and summary justice to the perpetrators who steal these headlights from us facelift D2 owners. I also do not want to hear that someone ends up on the wrong side of the boys in blue.

So report him man, there's CLEARLY grounds for reasonably suspicion here!

Would neatly dremlling my reg into the lense be A. legal and B. effective? Good luck polishing that out, they'd be worthless to thieves.

Correct me of I'm wrong, but is there not a guy on eBay who sells a bar which sits vertically across the centre on the headlamp.

I'm sure I read it somewhere in a similar post.

Didn't pay too much attention as I have a pre face lift.

Surely worth a search, if it doesn't help security surely it would be the start of a noticeable deterrent?

There used to be a guy selling them on ebay but he doesn't anymore.

He had too many complaints about them not working when the little scroats turned up with bolt croppers ... not his fault and they were a nice idea.

Has anyone actually reported this obvious crook to the police? Handling stolen good was a crime last time I checked!!!

Am I going to have to do it?

The guy selling the lights has to be caught he even uses the same image on each listing! I am sure there is an easy way to get his contact details off ebay. I wonder what he would do if a lot of angry men in discoverys turned up at his house?

Or, you know, procedure was followed and the suspicious listing was reported to the police who can very easily get his address from ebay and investigate.

Right guys, I've just reported this to Durham Constabulary who were very grateful and took it seriously. They asked that we stay vigilant for other similar sellers and they said they're going to investigate this and will let me know if they turn anything up.

We're only going to beat this if we make it hard for the bloody weasels who are handling these stolen goods!!!

Dead right. I've got a D1 but I know how mad I would be if this happened. Etching VRM into the face would seem a good idea, but as has been pointed out, there is no supply without demand. Is there any way all the forums could work together on this?

It would certainly slow them down. Yanking them out is less than a minutes job when there's nothing in the way. Best defence is to park it front up to a wall or another vehicle.
