Wanting a 110" 300 tdi CSW, what to expect

Hi all

Pretty new to posting on here though I joined a couple of years ago [guess not owning a landrover was the cause:eek:]

Done my intro and it's been suggested I should be looking for a 110" 300 tdi CSW so that's what I'm doing, been trawling the net for a couple of weeks now and seen quite a variation in prices with the dearer ones not always appearing the best.

What realistically will I get for £6.5k?

I came across a 1997 example that has been advertised for a long while, 120,000 miles, bit of MOT and tax and priced at £6.5k after being reduced from £7.5k.
Pleasant helpful chappie at the other end of the emails with plenty of pic's being sent through, one pic of the underside was very dark but after lightening it up in photoshop it showed what looks like a couple of huge patches

Is this the norm for a landy of this age and price, I would have preferred any rot cut out and new metal let in rather than just covering it over but lot's do just patch [cut an outrigger of a splitscreen camper once and it had seven layers of patches/repairs on top of the rust:( new outrigger was only £14!].

Would really appreciate any pointers and advice, bit's to look out for and check as I've never owned a defender. I did have a range rover about 17 years ago and a 109" safari before that but went soft and started buying jap imports:eek:

My 1998 110 has a solid chassis without a patch anywhere, crossmember will probably want doing in another 12months or so though. If its been looked after there is no need for it to look like a patchwork quilt;).

Fill your location in pal, there might be someone local who MIGHT come and have a look for you in exchange for chips, they are regarded as currency around here :D:D:D

Cheers mate, I'll keep looking then as I do want one that's been looked after;)

Age not so important as long as it's been kept nice:eek:
 
Yep as Mr Grimmer says - if you are paying decent money you want a decent landy in decent condition!! Look at loads before you spend the cash - could save you a nightmare in the near future :)
 
Lot of money for an L plate - if you want a CSW then start looking at autotrader/ebay/gumtree etc........ as grimmer says put your location in and someone close may well have a look at a prospective purchase with you ;)

Looking at all sites google has chucked up, good ones I've seen are up to £9k for a 1997, dealer price that is:(

Mate i bought a 110 csw 2 weekends ago

I looked for months and veiwed a fair few.

I payed 7500 for an R plate with 113k on the clock. The body work is fantastic and the interior is in cracking condition for the year.

I looked at this vehicle twice and test drove it. Besure you do all and i mean all your checks! As mentioned take someone in the know along.

I,m no stranger to defenders especially the 300tdi,s but i think i got over excited and missed some errors. Nothing major but little things have started to catch my eye and annoy me. I only got a months warrenty on major failures with mine so i,ve 2 weeks left if anything is going to go.

That all being said i,ve bought my past 4 cars all from ebay 530 M-series sport, Audi A4 avant, Defender 90 and ma 110.

Just take yur time and ask away. Its what i,ve done on here and the information and guidance i,ve recieved has helped me no end!:D

my 300tdi CSW waas bought this summer for 4.5K 125K miles, body needs a bit of attention, but the bad stuff like door frames etc are fine, already had a new Xmember before i got it.
chassis has a few patches, but nothing excessive, bulkhead will need some attention in the next year or so.
