WANTED...Wheel Spacers

Morning you handsome bunch and Happy Fathers Day to those it applies

I am after some wheel spacers for my TD4. Any width really as I have fitted 225/75/16 tyres and there kind of close to the strut. I also need the extra space to adjust the camber due to a recent 40mm lift.

Is there any available anywhere before I take the plunge and buy new.

I used cheapo 5mm spacers from ebay after buying the wrong wheels for my 03 TD4. I didn't realise they were off a pre 2000 car which had smaller brake disks.

I'm not sure I'd recommend anything wider than 5mm unless they are the ones with their own studs, bought new from a reputable supplier. The whole car is sitting on these things so they need to be as strong as OEM.

I have tried loads of times to add pictures but since I got a Samsung S20 it just says the files are too big but just trust when I say "there bloody close" to the bottom of the spring cup.

Yeah ideally I wanted hubcentric spacers but I had seen some standard ones that are 5mm and pretty much slide on but I dont know how far I trust them

I used the cheapo 5mm with no issues. There isn't really anything to trust or distrust, they are bits of 5mm alloy and once clamped in by the wheel nuts they're fine.
The issue with any wheel spacers is you are now relying on the wheel nuts to hold the weight of the car instead of the wheel centre on the hub.

True its just the amount of threads left being used in the wheel nuts... Other things is im not sure how much of a difference 5mm would actually make with regards to the extra clearance

All I would say on the cheap ones is that I bought a pair to space the 17 inch rim on my tailgate as the tyre hit the brake light.

I would use them to hold a spare wheel but I would not want them at each corner of my vehicle!! Stud length reduced, weight on studs, no load distributed through centre supporting flange. No way would I put on the running wheels.

Just my view.

Nice phone.

Take pictures at a reduced pixel count like I do, or the files exceed the file size limit on here.

I have no idea how to do that... Me and technology aren't exactly the best of friends. Only upgraded to that phone as my last phone was broke and it was the better deal between that and an iPhone

It not difficult to change the resolution on the pictures you take on a Samsung Droid.

It's a better phone than an IPhone too.

Open the camera app. Click on the settings icon (cog shaped). Scroll down to PICTURES section of the menu. Select 16X9 then select the 9.1MP resolution. Look down the menu further, and make sure RAW is off.
This will give you file sizes just under the limit on here.

Use a few washers to figure out if 5mm gives enough clearance. DON'T drive it like that but it give you an idea how much you need.

IIRC 5mm will still leave the centre of the wheel supported but don't quote me on that. If it doesn't then don't do it.

Ill give it a go tomorrow... That seems for too complicated for my little brain for tonight this is why I became a mechanic... Don't use anything electronic haha

I would never use wheel spacers on a Freelander. Personal choice. Yer betterer oft getting wheels and tires that fit. They're not type approved and never tested. Be careful.

I can't remember the depth of the centre spigot on the hub? I'd have thought it deeper than 5mm? Longer wheel studs are also available (the standard ones should just knock out).

That is a VERY good point... I guess the same also applies for aftermarket brake kits etc.

The hub centre spigot is over 10mm deep.

They are, but fitting them would be very difficult, as the standard length studs don't really fit as they're too long for the space behind the hub.

I used 5mm spacers and my recollection is the wheels where still secure on the centre spigot or I wouldn't have used them.
