Alright guys,

I'm currently planning a small laning and camping trip to Wales at the end of July and would like some advice.

Myself, the wife and the two kids will be in our Discovery. My dad and my brother will be coming along in my brothers Jeep Cherokee. Both vehicles are fitted with CB radios.

The trip should be about 5 days over a long weekend. Traveling from Surrey via Salisbury and Brecon, hopefully doing Strata Florida and then making our way back. Thinking along the lines of this:

  • day 1: Drive to Sailsbury, drive round the plain and then camp somewhere near Yeovil
  • day 2: Drive north to Bristol and have a look round the Bloodhound SSC factory (I'm joining the team and have been invited to bring family for a tour) then drive into wales and camp somewhere between Newport/Cardiff and Brecon.
  • day 3: Do some lanes around the Beacons. Drive to near Strata Florida and camp.
  • day 4: Drive Strata Florida itself and camp again.
  • day 5: Make our way home

What you think?
What is Strata Florida normally like around July?
Any decent lanes around the beacons to do? Ideally a string of lanes we can follow starting from the south that would see us pop out on the west side?

Many thanks.

Stick to single figures while green laning, that way you can drag it out if need be, or speed up,

Otherwise looks like a good few day out to be had by you !

Heading up to Strata Florida at the end of the month for a weekend away, sounds like a good all year rounder trail from what I know of it,

I'm a british army aircraft engineer (currently on Apache) specilising in aircraft structural and composite (carbon fibre, kevlar etc...) repair techniques.

I'm massivly excited about being on the team. I will be on the build part of the team helping to manufacture the car; in particular the titanium upper chassis and vertical fin.
