Doh! That is the cam belt cover plug. The bell housing / flywheel plug is here, or rather it should be. The plug is sitting in my dash at the mo but it goes in the hole in the centre of this pic:

 
Ahhhh pretty sure that's the one I thought it was, it's already got a plug in and we have t out it in, in the past 4 years we've owned it... Oops, that'll need emptying!

Can't find a 3 into 1 connector on ebay or maybe I'm just being a tw*t?!
Also, had the snapped banjo bolt removed earlier so got that all sorted :) just need 3 shorter bolts for the timing case breather, anybody help on that front?
 
Good idea, I need to buy a decent hacksaw actually! Don't suppose anybody's in suffolk and fancies helping me seal the air pipes and snorkel? :D
 
Just took the gearbox drain plug that's probably been in there for 4 odd years... Nothing came out!
Cheers pumpy, will do. Does anybody know whthe part number for the two flexipipes that go from Airbox to turbo and Airbox to the wing/snorkel?

Have you actually tried that? as Ive found its almost impossible to stop a tdi that doesnt want to stop running even with air blocked off!

Yeah, I used a heavy duty gash bag on my 300tdi, and I used a waterproof coat on on my mates 200tdi.

If it won't stop running it's getting air from somewhere besides the top of the snorkel, or it's braking the laws of chemistry.

I can't speculate on that mate, I can only report what I did and how it turned out. Both times I tried it the engine stopped within about 8-10 seconds.

If there's no air getting into the engine it will stop, regardless of the fuel it's using*, or it's breaking the laws of chemistry.

*although any fuel containing oxygen mite carry on as that would not be breaking the laws of chemistry:p

and theoretically if it's getting air via the turbo, it's getting air from somewhere else besides the top of the snorkel, so the statement is still correct (although maybe not so good for the engine :p )

If it's sealed right it'll stop in a couple of seconds, in the vid I posted you can hear the vacuum that's been formed when I pull the cardboard off. If there's no air the engine will stop.

I have heard about turbo failure and runaway engines but if you've done it right and it is sealed the engine still needs air so it would stall anyway. If you're turbo is OK then there won't be a problem.
 
Mine didn't stall the engine, it collapsed the hoses so much it pulled one off!!

I'd say that's still sealed .. ;)
