Hi Guys,

I cant seem to find a definitive answer anywhere, so here goes.

I want to make up a full wading kit for my 90, 300tdi.

I cannot find definitive answers as to wherther they are BSPP or BSPT fittings, are they different for the axles and gearbox or are they all one type of thread?
I know being a Land Rover can sometimes mean a mix and match of fittings and I want to order the correct stuff.

Also, my mate has a td5 and would like me to get him the bits aswell, so are they the same for the td5 or different?

Someone on ebay is selling a kit that includes BSPT fittings for the axles and also includes a BSPP banjo (not sure what this is for), I just want to order the correct fittings.

I wanted to do axles, gearbox, transfer box, timing cover and fuel tank.

Can anyone with the knowledge advise on if they are BSPP or BSPT and any differences for the tdi's and td5.

Many thanks guys!

I have no idea what BSPP or BSPT mean but I was also concerned over what to get for my axle breathers as my 27 year old landy still had the original breathers fitted (or what was left of them). My original axle breathers were the banjo type with a bolt through the banjo into the axle. I replaced these with the more modern 90 degree bend type breathers. My LT77 gearbox and transfer box have the banjo type fitted and they are servicable so I left them.

I did find having a chat to Gwyn Lewis (Gwyn Lewis 4x4 specialises in the design and fitting of off road equipment and preparation) to be very helpful as he was able to answer all of my questions. I di then go on and buy the pieces I needed from eBay because I coudl not afford his very superior looking but rather pricey kits. Hope that helps?! Rich

Bspp means the threads are parallel and bspt means they are tapered. Just getting more confused the more I search!

Pretty sure I bought my wading kit off this guy for my D90 300tdi

LAND ROVER WADING KIT ,LANDROVER BREATHER KIT 6-1 ULTIMATE KIT ,ALL TDI ENGINES | eBay

Although some of the connectors and the two wading plugs in the picture looks different now, than he was selling when I got mine. I assume he has updated the kit slightly since I bought it.

I have no idea about the BSPP or BPST question, but all the threads in the kit were correct for my Landy.

I didn't need the elbow with push in at both sides. This apparently is for a fuel tank breather that my Landy doesn't have. So that meant that one of the Y connectors was redundant to.

Will have to find out if my tank has a breather. Where would this be located?

Your friend with a TD5 is in a better position than you as his kit is only £35 from eblag. As he only has the gearbox and the 2 axles to do.

As someone already mentioned, speak to gwyn lewis, he knows his stuff and then buy from elsewhere if you want to.

as mentioned bspp is a parallel thread and bspt is tapered, generally a tapered thread uses a sealant on the threads to seal and a parallel thread seals on a dowty seal/washer, 'o' ring

I'm not sure. When I was searching for references to it, I only found one post on a different forum that mentioned it. It said it was under the wheel arch by the tank.

Mine simply didn't have it as it was described.

My fuel tank does have a breather, but this is a much thicker tube that comes from a small nozzle on the tank just about where the fuel pipe attaches. The other end splices into the filler neck. I think this is more to do with letting the air out of the tank when you fill it, but it would have the same effect as a breather as I think the filler cap is not air tight.

I do wonder whether the one the kit is for is actually only for a 110 or older 90s. I don't know if my theory is correct though as this is the only Landy I've owned.

Regarding the threads, they do have some white stuff around the thread, kinda like PFTE tape only painted on. It looks as though this is for make an airtight seal.

Cut LR breathers off Banjo's and buy some 6mm OD tubing. Place end of tubing into boiling water to soften it, and push onto banjo spigot. Refit original banjos. Job done..

Oh and buy 3no Tee or Y 6mm pushfit connectors, and use one to reduce gearbox and transfer box to one breather. Use a 2nd to reduce both axles to one pipe, and then use 3rd connector to reduce those 2 pipes to one. Exit final single tube up side of snorkel. Job done for less than a tenner..

Not sure if this will help but I took some photos of when I did mine.

Landy random pics

It starts at about the 5th pic and continues onto the next page. I did also do the timing cover breather at a later date. If I find any pics of that I'll put them up to.

 no, i haven't looked but as it seals on a banjo and you dont use a thread sealant, i would say its a parallel thread, although in this size its not going to make a huge difference if you get it wrong
