Arrived this morning, genuine boxed gasket set, replaces our one we used on the Rangie.
Still got three V8 D2's out there, must get one of the spare head sets away for checking.

At last!

DVLA sorted the RFL, insurance was already in place and the MOT is good until July 2018, so a quick run out to get some petrol and see if it overheats.

First impressions are "Christ it's big!" been driving our Astra hatch since the Discovery 2 went off the road, so transferring to a mega-barge took a bit of getting used to, especially with slippery leather seats.

EAS played up until I stopped and restarted, and the LH door mirror doesn't return fully after reversing, but apart from that, everything works, aircon, suspension etc etc. No temperature frighteners, went to mid point on the gauge and stayed there, which is what we want to see.

Got a towbar for it the other day, £20 from a FB P38 group, got to fit that. Got a new battery neg cable to fit, change the coolant now and oil and filter.

Very pleased.

Changed the coolant to 'proper' 50/50 OAT today, had three goes at venting, got the air out eventually.

Trimmed one of the Jubilee clip tangs off while I had the water out. It was too close to the fan.

New battery negative cable going on tomorrow.

Gave it some beans going over to the shotblasters with a s/h towbar, suspension does its thing OK, gearbox changes nicely, engine rumbles in the background :)

Got to check tyre pressures as well, but generally it needs to be used to bring all the toys up to scratch.

Oil change and filter done, gradually getting things sorted out inside.

Radio code entered and radio now working, turned off reverse gear mirror dipping which I found unuseful.

Next task is to set the windows and sunroof to clear the messages every time I start.

Ordered a new key, that was expensive!

Got new striker plates and bolts for the lower tailgate, the originals are rusty and look awful.

200Tdi rear main seal came with the other bits, but that's for our eldest son and his 200Tdi CSW Defender.

More boxes ticked:

Windows and sunroof all set, so no beeps on starting or stopping. EAS works as it should, lowers for speed, raises around town.

Towbar back from shotblasting and Zinc spraying, got to paint that today, then fit it in the week, new 3500kg towball and electrics waiting.

Once all the little niggles are done, it's a nice car to drive around in, we'll try a longer run next week when we go down to Sussex.

Stuck with one of the inner self tappers well rusted into the Lokut in the chassis.

Went to take the wheel off for better access and found that I seem to have 22mm hex wheelnuts rather than 27mm.

This would make the wheels Range Rover Sport or L322 original fitting?

Some of the discos had smaller nuts so might be off a Disco. If L322 the offset is different so it will have a spacer behind the wheel.
 
Looks like RRS.

Got 5 new wheel nuts as we have some that are b#ggered by tyre fitters using air guns. 2 on n/s/r, 1 on o/s/r, have to check fronts.

Struggling with rear bumper removal to fit towbar, got main bolts out, chassis self tappers for wheelarch liner and mudflaps, went to release clips on sliding blocks, but they were already undone!

Soaking blocks in WD40 but nothing is moving, and structure isn't really conducive to heavy thumping with large object :) :)

Great head gasket write up. I always laugh when people put aside a weekend for head gaskets. Is it true Turner's no longer want gems blocks for remanufacture. Gems are rapidly falling off a cliff as far as parts go unfortunately I guess they will soon be a rare beast!
