Freelander 1 Volume control

I have the standard volume control issue. i am thinking of changing that to something like this
Sony DSX-A202UI Head Unit with 4 x 55 W, USB and Mega Bass - Green

Just wondering would this be a straight swap or need some conversion (double DIN/single DIN) ? also would the steering wheel controls still work ?

What year is your FL1? Depends on the year and the harness fitted. You may need a harness adapter.
The wheel controls won't work, without a converter or modified resistance to the wheel switches. That's the way I want when I fitted my Sony Xplod HU.

The HU swap is easy enough as all the necessary wiring converters are available. I cheaped out and converted my wheel switches to control my Sony HU, instead of buying a converter box. Some of the more modern HUs have the ability to remember the wheel switch resistance, which makes changing HUs easy.

One of these will allow you to use you steering wheel controls and allow the Sony to plug into the existing wiring harness.You do need to check iirc that the Sony head unit is compatible with steering wheel controls as not all head units are. There will be a small jack plug on the back or similar socket on the rear to take that autoleads loom.

You'll still need a converter kit, for both mounting the HU and the wiring.
