My wiring has been in a bit of a tangle for a while, but I have at last got round to sorting out the dashboard and getting the heater duct sorted out.

Now that the clocks are back in the binnacle, everything electrical seems to working OK (switches, lights, ignition etc.) but the temp guage and the fuel guage are doing nothing. Not even a flutter. From a search of the forum, the likely culprit seems to be the voltage regulator.

I've found what I think is my voltage regulator - not attached to the clocks but at the end of bundle of wires wrapped in tape so I can't see where they go back to. So I'm not sure .... and while all four wires going to the guages are green, the wires going into the regulator are black, black with a white stripe and white with a red stripe (see attached photo). There is a fourth terminal - has something become disconnected from it? And I assume that the black wire runs to earth but there is no continuity (tested with a multimeter) between that terminal and earth.

So to get to my questions:
1. have I found the right bit?
2. does the wiring look right?
3. should the black run to earth?

light green supply and two darker greens
thanks Blackburn - that info did the trick. Checked the wiring to the guages and found light greens to one guage and dark to the other. So I swapped two of them round and voila! Working guages. Luxury! Still puzzled that the voltage regulator has different colour wires and isn't bolted to anything. But if it works, I'm going to leave it alone.
