Hi Peeps,
I have been offered a Series II with a VM 2500 TD Fitted,
I have not had much experiance with this engine and wondered if the Guru's out there could offer me some advice as to the pitfalls of this set up,
thanks in advance

Hi Again Folks,
I am hearing that the VM Engine has problems with Head gaskets and piston wear,
Is it the VM that is fitted to the Turbo Diesel Defender,
Also hearing that its quite a smokey lump does it go through the Emmision test on the Mot OK
Looking at the Landrover on Wednesday I really need to decide if its a viable propersition.....:confused::confused:

As an after thought, how easy would it be to re-engine,does it use a L/R Gearbox, will the engine mounts line up, thinking Defender TDI Here or open to suggestions.....................

Hi Guys,
Went to see the L/R today and am afraid to say it was a bit of a shed, from chassis down all was good, unusual to say that,
But bulkhead, doors, roof all suffered from lack of use(been parked up 4 years) the Vm diesel lacked power and would not rev above 2500 and smoked probably why it hadn't had an Mot in 4 years,
pity really as it had a interesting bit of history to it,
Made a pitiful offer on it as I would really like to re-engine it to a motor better suited, up to him now,
Thanks for advice
See you on the Muddy Stuff....

ya did right ....

Yeah but I also heard of someone who had a gaylander and the head gasket didn't blow, and the doors didn't fall off.

Yer get retards in every breed.

the vm engine was and is a pile of crap, while the 200 tdi had a few issues it is light years better than a vm

I remember being vaguely interested in a diesel Cherokee about 5 years ago till I found out it was VM engined & ran a mile. Was surprised the Italians found anybody else to use it after Landrover finally saw sense & ditched it.
