Good Evening All

Seeking advice please

Have been offered good spec FL2 with engine issues
The vendor claims his mechanic has identified one or more valves have dropped in the engine which could possibly render the engine u/s
Can anyone advise if this is an issue with the 2s please

Is the cam belt still intact. A broken valve can get buried in the piston or cylinder which is fairly terminal. (although it is only a lump of metal to replace!)

Yes the belt is intact not concerned about doing the work just wondering how lucky we might be if the liners are not damaged
and just a piston or two

Unfortunately this is an issue that can occur on these engines. It happens if the rocker spring gets weak, which allows the rocker to slip off the valve, and act against the spring cap instead. This can cause the valve retainer collets to jump out, which causes the valve to drop into the cylinder, often rendering the engine as scrap. I've partially rebuilt my engine (a nut got dropped into a cylinder), but unless you have the skills to do a rebuild yourself, you're better off simply replacing the engine with a second hand unit.
If you can do the work, you'll not know if the cylinder walls are ok, unless you pull the head first. If you're lucky, you may get away with a piston or two, and a replacement head. However that will cost more than a replacement engine, which often come with a guarantee.

Armed with the extensive knowledge supplied am now in a informed decision on the vehicle which will politely decline when I see the vendor at the weekend
