'Here's my special tool' - cost Nil

Two bits of metal, one a bracket off an old washing machine, one, part of a shed hinge, both with an 8mm hole drilled near the end.

For easy of photos - I have removed the fan!

Remove one bolt from the pulley and fit one of the metal parts

Remove another bolt and fit the other metal bar

Bring the parts together and insert another bolt to join both pieces of metal.
Hold tight, insert 36mm spanner or whatever size you need and undo bolt, no need for hitting with screwdrivers, chisels etc.
The P38 one came off easily.

Job done

:clap2:

Top tool biggeeeee, im going to make me one of them!.

As already suggested a bit of shock treatment to the nut will not go astray, before trying to undo it, maybe plus a bit of penetrant oil as well.
And, if it is a 300Tdi, it is not the water pump you would need to remove it is the whole timing belt case front cover, which I doubt you can do with the fan/pulley still on it, the pump is on an entirely separate bit, the fan is mounted on a bearing cartridge simply pressed into the timing belt case cover.

"victory is mine" took 1 hour of spraying, hitting, punching and swearing but now off new viscous fitted .now it just sounds like a tractor without the light aircraft stuck on the front.thanks for all the help.

no i just hate that lying haynes manual "simply remove the bolt" which has bin on there for 18 years in the mud, rain and salt they get to work on and new car....look at the pics his hands are so clean.

I just did mine by with wd40 a holding tool I made from a tee connector for unistrut and a 36 mm spanner I grinded the side off to make it thinner
after the 20 mins it took to make this it was very easy
I had tried to use the rover tools and their special tool is just flat metal and not very strong
