I have a second hand lt230 transfer box out of a classic, (came free with gearbox) is it possible to just swap tranny boxes if/when my VCU fails?

Yes but it's a easier job to change the VCU.

There was a VCU rebuild vid on the youtube, some Latvian or Balkan fella, can't find it now.

Looks like he took it out and gave it a bloody good talking to.

Very impressed, just makes me more likely to get an Ashcroft exchange unit though.
